I own a 1999 Volvo S80 4 door sedan that I bought a year ago and the passenger side air bag inflated. After the person who I was giving a ride when he got out of the car and shut the passenger right front door a little harder that normal, the side air bag at head liner including passenger seat side air bag went off and the air bag practically exploded and blew off. This filled the whole interior of the car full of gas/fumes and neither the head liner air bag and or the seat held up or properly inflated but with punched holes inside the air bag clothing material.
I called the dealership and they told me there was no air bag recalls but definitely there is serious issues with S80 Volvo air bag and of course being much older however; it's is very dangerous situation and not only in case of accident that will not save life but it would severely hurt passengers inside the vehicle with either defective or the age of air bag which Volvo factory call it life time air bag system and safe for which this does not seems to be the case however; this car practically now totaled with huge cost of side air bag replacement, head liner, the seat and probably the air bag module as well.
