The sunroof of the vehicle spontaneously shattered while driver was driving on I-5 South in Orange County, California. Driver-??s safety was compromised due to the potential for glass to have entered the vehicle while vehicle was in motion. The safety of other motorists on the road was also compromised, as pieces of glass appear to have flown off the sunroof into traffic. The sudden shattering was also extremely loud and startling, which was also a safety hazard because driver could have panicked and lost control of vehicle. After calling to report the incident to Acura, owner was advised the vehicle-??s sunroof has not been recalled nor is it under an extended warranty, despite evidence of a class action lawsuit against American Honda Motor Co., Inc. for related incidents in 2015 to 2021 vehicles. Per the lawsuit, which is a case out of California, the alleged defect in 2015 to 2021 model year Honda and Acura vehicles, referred to in the complaint as the -??class vehicles, -?? puts drivers and their passengers in -??serious danger, -?? as the sunroof explosions can cause -??shards of glass to fly through their vehicles, sometimes while driving at high speeds, -?? and -??the loud explosion and flying glass distract drivers and create a hazard to the people in the Class Vehicles and those around them.-?? The complaint alleges that the sunroofs in Honda and Acura vehicles are made with tempered glass that, because of the pressure created during the tempering process, has been known to -??explode suddenly-?? if the outer layer is compromised. The lawsuit also claims Honda-??s use of thin tempered glass for its sunroofs is -??substandard, dangerous, and inadequate-?? given the material-??s propensity to shatter or explode.

The sunroof spontaneously shattered while driving the car. No other vehicles were around and no debris caused the sunroof to shatter. Glass blew in to oncoming traffic and into the car while it was being operated, which posed a risk to myself and other drivers. Upon further investigation, this is a know issue by Honda/Acura and a class action lawsuit has been file, yet the company is unwilling to make repairs to effected cars. There were no warnings etc prior to the sunroof shattering. The car was taken directly to the dealership for repairs and photos are available.

Paint started to peel off at upper side of rear roof (under the upper side of the gate). I have reported this issue el the dealership and as of today they haven-??t yet responded. Vehicle sleeps in the garage every day and.only has about 72,000 miles. Same issue happened with my 2012 Honda Odyssey (same white diamond color). Honda fixed the van under extended warranty. So I hope Acura (Honda) does the same for my RDX. I understand same is happening on the MDX of similar years.

I was driving down the highway and my moonroof suddenly shattered. I had taken a left hand turn onto the highway and shortly after I reached the 55 mph speed limit I heard a loud noise and didn't know what happened at first, then I heard more crackling from above and figured it was the moonroof. Luckily I had the shade closed and there were no other vehicles around me at the time. Since there were no other vehicles around and I wasn't driving under an overpass, it seems to me this happened spontaneously vs something like a rock hitting the moonroof.

Takata recall. The airbag deployed while my right hand was on the 2 O'clock position. I was going about 30 mph on a city street, and hit a car that stopped suddenly in front of me. It was like a bomb blast onto my wrist, forcefully blasting out acid and air or whatever's in that airbag. I have a trauma injury and chemical burns on my wrist. There are chemical burn holes all over the dashboard as well. At first I thought my beaded bracelet had punctured my wrist. One burn looked like a cigarette burn, and within 2 hours the burn hole skin turned pitch black. Other blisters formed as the hours went by. The next morning (thanksgiving) I went to urgent care and they referred me to the emergency room. They said it was chemical burn injuries, which I am now treating. It is extremely painful. I did file an insurance claim and there is a police report, but the accident was only 3 days ago. I declined medical attention at the time of the accident, as I thought it was only a simple bruise, and at that time didn't realize that the airbag vent was by my wrist, and that I had chemical injuries.

As I was driving down us rte 95 yesterday, going over the bridge into portsmouth, nh at ~65 mph, my sunroof suddenly exploded, covering me and the interior of my car with broken glass. Fortunately, I was able to pull over to an exit just over the bridge and call for assistance. I think I avoided an accident by virtue of there not being a lot of cars near me when this happened. It was a sunny day, ~50 degrees and my car thermostat was at 67 degrees so temperature differential was not a factor. Both the state police officer and the tow truck driver opined that the window blew out from within. The officer also checked the bridge for possible falling debris that might have hit the car and found no evidence of that.

Traveling on interstate at about 74 mph the moon roof shattered without warning. The inside visor was open and the glass moon roof was closed at the time. Glass fragments dropped on top of driver and passenger.
