The contact owns a 2007 Acura TL. While driving between 30-40 mph, the contact placed the gear shifter into third gear. When the clutch was released, the transmission immediately shifted into neutral without assistance. The failure occurred at any speed and without warning. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection and they flushed the transmission. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer on twelve separate occasions for identical failures, but there were no resolutions. The transmission was rebuilt twice. The failure mileage was unavailable and the current mileage was 14,000. Updated 07/28/09. Updated 07/30/09.

There is no injury. I have a 2007 Acura TL type S with a 6 speed manual. The clutch began to slip and not operate like it did before. I have driven stick shift for 5 years. This is not my first manual car but my 7th manual car. I know how to drive manual. The clutch gave out at around 28,000. Acura of riverside has looked at it and said the clutch is no good and needs to be replaced. He also said a few weeks ago another Acura TL type S has replaced the clutch. The service tech has quoted me over $2,000 to get the car working. I believe that Acura has a problem with the manual transmission as they did with the automatic transmission in the pass. My other cars lasted between 120K to 150K with the factory clutch. I have research online and other problem are having this problem. It is only fair that they fix this issue as a defective instead of making the consumer pay for their problems. They refused to fix it and consider it my fault. I believe it is a on going problem and I am not the only one with this problem.

1. manual transmission frequently "pops" out of 3rd gear when shifting resulting in car going back into neutral and subsequent drop in speed. 2. incident leads to high risk of rear end collision in traffic, possible loss of control, driver attention diverted to re-shifting. 3. dealer advised manufacturer previously aware of the problem, does not have a solution and does not know if/when a solution will be available. No repairs made or available.
