TLX A-Spec

  • Automatic transmission
  • 20,260 miles

We owned our new 2021 Acura TLX A-Spec for approximately 1 year before it started having problems. Several warning lights would go on, the transmission being one of them. Warning indicator would state for me to pull over and stop vehicle. Every time I brought it to the dealership for service, the lights would get re-set and it given back to me... only to end up with the same issue (once as I was pulling out of the parking lot from picking it up after they had "fixed it"). They stated that "often, resetting the warning indicators would correct the problem." What??

None the less, after further testing and multiple visits, the transmission on the car had to be replaced due to metal fragments in the transmission fluid. According to the dealership, they had only seen this problem on the RDX models, not the TLX. I felt it was important to put this out there in case something similar is happening to others.

TLX S-type 3.0L Turbo-6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 567 miles

Brand new car only driven about 100 miles by me. Had almost 500 on it when bought new. Broke down in construction zone on major interstate where there was no place to pull over. Had to coast over a mile with flashers on to find a dirt strip to pull over in. Semis were swerving around me; people were honking and flipping me off. Horribly stressful! Salesman didn’t return my calls until I kept calling him. Then said he couldn’t help me but would have someone call me. Nope—didn’t happen. I kept calling and told them I didn’t want the car, as I couldn’t rely on it. I mean, $60K+ for a brand new car and the transmission fails??!! Service department said “good news”—they were going to replace the transmission...

Doesn’t help me now, and I can’t rely on this BRAND NEW CAR. Kept going up the chain of command; was told Honda was perplexed and wanted to take a look at it. Well, great. Now the dealer has had the car in their possession longer than I have had it. I was so mad because it seemed the dealer just wanted to “fix” the car but no way did I want to keep it: if such a MAJOR part failed, what will go next?? I kept raising my voice, and finally got a call from the GM. Straight-up guy. ONLY one to return calls when he said he would. Agreed to refund my money. I will never buy another Acura. Will keep my ancient RELIABLE Honda.
