I bought a 2010 Acura with a 6 speed manual tranny from a dealership. It had 61k on it - but I didn't notice it burned oil until one day I decided to check it and the dipstick didn't have any oil at all. I'm amazed my oil light didn't come on and my engine didn't blow. Now I have to add about 2-3 quarts between oil changes and I only go by the light on the dash that tells the percentage of oil life. Now my car has 83k miles and it's annoying because I have to check it every so often.

I never had this problem with other cars and I even owned a turbo 2001 Audi A4. If anyone knows a solution, it would be really helpful, thank you. I heard it can run for a long time, as long as you keep adding oil - but I'm afraid that it will become much worse and I'll have to add oil every 500 miles or less.

Noticed right after my extended warranty ended (of course!) that my low oil light came on in between regularly scheduled oil changes. Have had to top up with 1 qt at about the 4000k, and the last time it took 2 qts. No leaks, no oil in driveway. Use 5w30, fully synthetic. Have read the other comments about some people receiving a letter about an extended warranty for 2009 to 2011 tsx...I cant find any details about this. Can anyone possibly post a link? Other than topping up, what have you done to fix it - piston rings? Any and all help is greatly appreciated! Not sure I trust my dealership so I'd rather do some groundwork first.

As a single mother who prides herself on being kind and helpful to others. I'm extremely disappointed at the lack of professionalism and accountability both the service department in Burlington and Acura as a company. The service department lacks attention to detail(paying top dollar for dealer services should come with some assurances, like re-setting the change oil service light after an oil change, or not stripping out the heat shield mounts..etc) The service department boasts a huge 'ego' or 'know-how' for the vehicles they are responsible for repairing and they put on a FACADE of compassion but lack ANY commitment towards real accountability.

My car has had an oil consumption concerns for years and when I received the "warranty extension" letter from Acura notifying consumers of the concern, I immediately thought.. YES.. this is certainly my car! I have to add 3-4q of oil between my dashboard's recommended oil changes, and almost 2q added when I change my oil every 4-5,000 miles(which I usually do). I purchased my vehicle at 24,000 miles and for a new vehicle, the oil consumption always seemed excessive. At the point of the letter, I was proud of ACURA for researching and standing by their vehicles mechanical concerns.

Upon visiting the dealer, they HAD NO intention of fixing the problem, instead continued to tell a me that ANYTHING under 1q of oil per 1,000 is considered 'normal.' In who's book!!! I was told to notify 'Car & Driver' Magazine and other Consumer advocates to report this mechanical fault, as I researched my vehicle for 8 months and NEVER was there mention of this. As a single mother, it was a difficult choice to spend my savings on what I thought to be a 'reliable vehicle' after graduating Dental Hygiene school, so I could best commute 120 miles for work to support my 2 small children. NOW, there are several other people dealing with my same issue and ACURA and the SHEARER dealer in South Burlington refuse to even acknowledge there is a legitimate concern.

Every person I speak with say's the oil consumption is NOT normal and I want EVERY BUYER OUT THERE to BEWARE of SHEARER/ACURA!!!

I have owned many cars and this is the FIRST one that loves consuming oil like a kid loves candy. It routinely needs oil between oil changes and the Acura dealership thinks it's completely normal to keep adding oil between oil changes.

I received a letter in the mail stating that there is a problem with the engine, and it needs to be fixed. ACURA of Baton Rouge is refusing to fix it stating that the car is burning oil in accordance with their guidelines.The car drinks oil.

Despite three oil consumption tests, they continue to send me on my way and refuse to fix it even though the car continues to need oil.

My 2010 Acura TSX was my dream car, I own a1998 TL 2.5 that is closing in on 200k and still going strong. My problem showed up recently with the oil light coming on, and after checking the oil, was a quart low. Did some research and found this to be a common problem with this engine. I called Acura, they informed the sb extended the pistons for 8 years, as long as the mileage was <125k. I just returned from the dealer, they changed the oil, and I have to return after driving 1k miles. While in the waiting room, i spoke with another owner of a 2010 that was experiencing this same problem. I instructed him on what to do. It’s more than obvious this is a manufacturer issue that needs to be addressed. I love my Honda’s and Acura’s, but this may just break my trust in them.

I bought my Acura TSX car in December 2016 with 88,000 miles on it and I was thinking I was getting a great car since I have had Hondas in the past and never had an issue with them. Acura suggests you change the oil every 5,000 miles. well that's a bunch of garbage because my low oil light came on when I was only 4,000 miles in for my 1st oil change. I started researching where Acura has an extended warranty placed for 2009-2011 Acura TSX for excessive oil consumption and there is a catch behind their bogus warranty. The bogus is Acura will only replace your piston rings if your car is consuming 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles. I took my car to King Acura in Hoover, Alabama to get an oil consumption test done back in July 2017 and the dealership denied the warranty saying my car is burning 1quart every 1,900 miles so it will not be covered. My paperwork the dealership gave me for the oil consumption test said they put in 5 quarts of oil in my car and it only holds 4.3 quarts, I brought this to their attention and they said no we only put 4.3quarts in. I really think this dealership over filled my oil just so they don't have to replace my engine. I have been back and forth with the dealership and corporate for several days now getting the run around about this issue. Corporate keeps saying its up to the dealership to approve this and dealership is saying no its corporate. I just want my car fixed and I really don't care who its up to. They keep telling me this is normal to consume a quart every 1,900 miles BULLSHIT!! My car will be fixed one way or another even if I have to get my attorney involved. Honda has already had a lawsuit on them for the same engine back in 2012-2014 and I am sure there will not be an issue getting a lawsuit started on Acura for the same issue.

Car taken to Acura for burning oil. They refused to fix the problem despite a TSB being issued for the problem. Multiple oil consumption tests were done each time they said it was just shy of 1 quart per 1000miles. At 90k we had the timing chain replaced after the check engine light came on-an issue related to oil consumption. At 131k miles we had to replace the timing chain a second time to the tune of $1580. I constantly have to add oil to our car.

Put me on the list. Sometime last year my oil light started pinging on briefly turning sharp turns. I noticed that it was going through oil at an alarming rate, sometimes 3 quarts of FULL SYNTHETIC between changes. Terrible!

I dropped it off to have an evaluation done when it started to code. It was diagnosed as a variable timing control-thingy. When I picked it up the dash lit up like a Christmas tree again. They sent me home and I was there a few weeks later with more codes. This time was it was the timing belt. They were reluctant to fix it but they did--under warranty. Both of these are lubrication related.

The car is still using the same level of oil and I'm on my first round of the oil consumption test. I am hopeful that Superior Acura of Dayton will take care of me--but I haven't been impressed thus far. They dropped the 'Acura says it's normal to add oil every 1,000 miles' bit on me to. My 1988 Chevy truck has 250,000 miles on it and doesn't use oil at all.

We leased a 2010 Acura TSX brand new. Had the rear brake issues 8k miles into the car. had to fight to have repaired at their expense. Front brakes were fine for another 20k miles. Bought the lease out at the end of the 36month term. Car had 31,000 miles and we still paid for the extended warranty. I have had Hondas, and Acuras for 15 years loved them. About 1 year after buying out the lease, still under original warranty, not to mention my extended warranty Oil light kept coming on. They said oh probably bad oil indicator light. went away for another 2k miles. Oil change, by acura and a month later and 600miles low oil light on. took it in for a minor fix They had my car for 5 days.....didn't seem minor after that. Now at 48k and 2-3yrs later I am told I need to bring it in for oil level checks/changes every 1k. I have 65k under my warranty and I get treated like a stranger who hasn't purchased 2 cars from Acura and 2from Honda. Never again will I buy Honda Acura . Turned an advocate to adversary. Honda needs to own the problem. Stop turning friends into foes.

Purchased an Acura Care Extended Warranty when car was purchase in 2009. This warranty covered the engine for up to 100,000 miles. Acura won't stand behind their warranty. Autonation Acura Dealer in Sanford, Florida tried to sell me a new engine. I pressed the fact that the car is still under warranty and it should be their dime to fix this. Then the Autonation Acura Dealer in Sanford, Florida insisted that under the NADA Standards, this car can burn 1 quart of oil per 1,000 miles. This car has never burned oil until this year! Furthermore, there is no NADA records that I can find stating this so called fact. After I insisted on speaking with the Acura Care Warranty rep. It was only then that it was decided to have an Official Oil Consumption Test be performed. This service dept continued to give me the run around, so I decided to take the car to a different Factory Authorized Acura Service Dept to have the test completed. Test was done and the car continues to burn oil.

Met with the Acura Care Warranty rep and was told that they would try an Engine Flush to see if this would fix the problem. He also said my car qualifies for an extended warranty for up to 125,000 miles now, as Acura has recognized that this year car does in fact have an Oil Consumption problem. I was told I should be getting information in the mail on this.

As per the Acura Care Warranty Rep's instructions, I returned to the dealership in Sanford, Florida at 1,000 miles to have the oil changed and flush chemicals removed. To my dismay (again.....) the Service Manager said the oil level is fine and there is no need to drain out the flush chemicals. Furthermore, she claims my car is not eligible for the new extended warranty and that the Oil Consumption Test would need to be done all over again. When I asked to speak with the Acura Care Warranty Rep, I was told that he was on a plane to Denver and could not be reached. (How convenient.)

I do plan on pursuing this matter with Acura Care. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Oil light came on one day between dealership oil changes. The dealership has been doing an oil consumption test every 1,000 miles for 10K miles now. The dealership has done every oil change and service suggested to this vehicle since it was NEW.

The dealership manager approved the repair and submitted it to ACURA. Acura denied coverage saying that there hasn't been enough complaints.

A class action lawsuit was filed and won against Honda for the accord for this same issue 2012-2014. Some indicators show that the accord and this TSX have the same engine. The TSX was not included in the the class action lawsuit. If you have this issue please add your complaint to the list. Complaints from this site are used in the legal battles.

I have a 2010 Acura TSX. Earlier this year, I started experiencing problems with my car burning excessive oil. To the point, of having to fill my car up with oil in between regularly, scheduled oil changes. I have been getting the run around from the Dealership. I took it to a friend's mechanic once in between oil changes at the dealership and he alerted me to the issues that Honda had been having with Honda's burning excessive oil. Based on some research I discovered that had been a class-action lawsuit that was settled last year for the same issue with Hondas (Accord, Pilot, Odyssey, Crosstour), so based on that I do not think my car is some type of anomaly given that the same corporation that makes Honda also makes acura. I attempted to do an oil consumption test the last couple of months (based on recommendation from Acura Dealer's service advisor) only to discover the individual did not know what he was doing. One week he tells me, based on his measurement, that my car is full of oil. The very next week, my car starting the distinct rattling noise that it makes that I have come to use as a sign that my car is low on oil and the check engine oil light comes on. Take it back to the dealership and same service advisor tells me my car is full of oil. Mechanic comes over and checks it and says the oil level is very low. I have owned four cars made by Honda (Civic, Accord, Pilot, and now Acura) and I know it is not normal for a car to be burning oil as much as my Acura does. Just hit 100K miles but have been dealing with this issue since about 85-90K miles. Their (dealership) is to replace the engine for $5300. Think that is ridiculous and not the standard of quality in a car that I am used with Honda. My civic had close to 200K miles and never had any engine/transmission issues. Sold my accord with about 180K miles on it. Again, never any issues with engine/transmission or oil burning. This not normal. I will not stop until I get to the bottom of this. If that means another class-action lawsuit against Honda, then so be it. Signed, Disgusted Consumer.
