In October 2006, purchased a new 2006 Audi A4 from carousel Audi in golden valley, mn. The car was well maintained and has less than 62,000 miles today. In late summer of 2013, I began noticing that the car jerked heavily when putting it into reverse from a parked position. The car has an automatic transmission and I then began noticing the car not accelerating properly and laboring when nearing 50 mph on the highway. The motor would rev up and make an unusual sound and it was too dangerous to drive on the highway. I brought the car to the Audi dealer and they advised me that the transmission and computer module were not communicating properly and that it needs a new module at a cost of about $3800. They refused to pay for any of the repairs. When I asked both them and Audi North America about a class action lawsuit regarding similar problems with 61,000 other Audi owners across the U.S., they refused to discuss the matter. I believe that Audi has knowingly made and sold a defective vehicle that is dangerous and poses great risk to its owner and other drivers on the road. I believe that Audi should be forced to stand behind their product and recall vehicles with this well documented defect and pay for my repair as well as for other owners who have similar problems.

On two separate occasions while driving home from work on October 17, 2012, the 2006 Audi A4 that I was driving went into uncontrolled acceleration. The first instance occurred about 5:30 pm while I was accelerating from a dead stop, after a stop light turned green, to a speed of 55 mph (which was the maximum speed allowed). As I lifted my foot off of the accelerator as the vehicle approached the 55 mph speed limit, the vehicle continued to accelerate - even though I had retracted my foot from the accelerator pedal. To get the vehicle under control I quickly and firmly tapped the brake. The vehicle then slowed down. About 15 minutes later, I was required to come to a complete stop as cars in front of me made a right hand turn. After the (3) vehicles made their turn, I then quickly accelerated the car up to the 45 mph speed limit. As my car reached the 45 mph limit I lifted my foot off of the accelerator pedal. But. The engine continued to accelerate. I then changed the gear shift from "drive" to "neutral". the engine continued to increase in speed (the engine was "screaming" at maximum RPM) but I was able to slow the car down with the brake pedal. The engine continued to "scream" at maximum RPM's until I turned the key to the vehicle to the "off" position. Based on the above, my wife will not longer drive our Audi A4.

The contact owns a 2006 Audi A4. The contact stated that while lightly placing his foot on the accelerator pedal to proceed from a traffic light, the vehicle abnormally accelerated without driver intent. He placed the gear selector into neutral and the vehicle came to a stop, barely avoiding a crash with a vehicle ahead of him. The vehicle was in possession of the dealer for one week; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 20,015.

Stopped by a red light waiting it to change. I was on a 2 lane road, turning into a 6 lane road to go into a shopping center. My foot was on the brake as always, the car was in drive. All of a sudden the engine started to rev extremely high. The brake barely stopped me from hitting the car in front!I then put it into neutral and pressed the accelerator to lower the RPM. Car was towed to coral springs Audi. They couldn't find anything wrong! something is wrong. Audi A4 convert. Approx 21K miles. I really like this car and wish they would have found something wrong. I know the Toyota issue and it is ironic that it happened around the same time. This is a major issue. This needs follow-up big time! thanks

Accelerator stuck when I was stopping for a red light after driving in normal rush hour traffic for about an hour. I was able to stop the car by slamming on brakes (but I did not think to shift out of drive), and the engine slowed after a moment or two. Then the engine raced again every time I took foot off brake pedal. This continued for about 10 minutes until I was able to get to a safe place to get off road and park. I turned off the car, then turned it on again, and again the engine raced. I called my dealer and was told to check the floor mat - I did, and it was not under accelerator pedal. After cooling down, the engine ran normally, but I had car towed to dealer, and they found no problem. The acceleration problem has not happened again.

No failure, accidents or injuries. The problem is a lag in acceleration at throttle tip in. The lag can cause dangerous situations when pulling in front of traffic and the car fails to accelerate in a timely manner. It has caused us to become hesitant when driving the vehicle and we lack confidence when pulling into an intersection from a stop. It is considered normal operation by the manufacturer. We have taken it to two different dealers who both agreed there was a lag and both told us there is no resolution to the problem. We feel the lag is bad enough to constitute a safety issue.
