- Marcos C., Miami, US
Car was drinking oil after a new engine, new seals, new everything .. 8000$ in repairs /engine and still was pissing oil and drinking a lot of it. Could hardly do a full tank of gas without stopping to add a liter.

Purchased a used 2009 Audi A4 in October 2018. In December 2018 add oil light came on every 400 miles. Oil consumption test failed. Extended Aftermarket Warranty will not cover pistons because it is a pre-existing condition that Audi knew about. However, lawsuit consumption warranty is only good for 8 years. Now what?
- Ann B., Nesconset, US
Bought the 2009 A4 in Dec of 2015. Brought the car to an Audi dealership in Jan/Feb of 2016 for oil consumption test. Was told it was ok and it was not part of the issue. Well, I am now adding 2 quarts every 2000 mi. Car is now at dealer for airbag interim repair and rechecking oil issue. On the good side I am in a 2017 A8l Quattro for several days.

Required a quart of oil every 100 miles. Audi never was willing to fix it even with a lawsuit filed against them. Will never buy another Audi again, terrible.

Bought the 2009 Audi A4 in 2010 and almost immediately noticed higher than normal oil consumption. Previously had BMWs with oil changes every 15000 miles and no additional oil needed in between. Brought to dealer several times over next two years, had several "fixes" , but oil consumption never rose above 1000 miles/quart. told several times times it was "normal" for a high performance car, which Iknow know is BS, probably what they were told to say, since i see it on numerous posts. .
Two years ago switched to local mechanic, not audi, who has also tried fixes, none successfully. Now at one quart every 400 miles and about to give up on Audi forever. Any thoughts out there? The car still runs smoothly, so hate to give up if there is a fix. ..

I have owned 5 Audis and was an avid fan. Audi No 5 is a 2009 A4.
This is the short version: Every time I brought it in for service I complaint about the excessive oil consumption. Every time I was lectured that this is normal on high performance Audis. Instead the tech found other problems, which needed to be fixed, but were not covered under warranty. (manifold, water pump, lock controls, etc.)
I found out about the class action lawsuit and that there is a oil leak and that Audi should fix it. Brought the car to the dealer. Was told that my turbo is using a lot of oil. $ 2500 first to fix the turbo, before they can commit to fix the other oil leak.
Strange is that I need the same amount of oil since years now. About 1 quart every 500 miles or every 3 weeks but now all on the sudden it is the turbo which needs to be repaired, of course not covered by warranty anymore. My first 3 complaints about oil consumption were within the warranty period.
I either have a lemon as car or the dealer (Flow Motor of Greensboro) is selling my repairs I do not need.
Don't trust the Audi anymore and definitely not the dealer.

We first leased and then bought the 2009 Audi A4 and we have so much problem after we bought the car. It uses oil extensively and it did not even pass its first smog check and now Audi dealer said that the car needs to replace the whole engine for $14,000.
Please help!!! First time Audi owner and probably the last time. No car to go to school or work!!!

I read the blogs and apparently 1 QT of oil per 800 miles for the Audi A4 2009 Quattro is not quite so normal after all. Checkered Flag performed the no charge preventative maintenance following my initial contact which appears to have solved that problem, but created a whole new one. Now my transmission is totally pissed and will not change gears properly when in Automatic. It also appears to have lost a great deal of power/torque.
Anyone else experiencing something similar??
P.S. It was a great vehicle,,

The oil light continuously stays on. 3 quarts of oil put in car in 4 days. Malfunctioned light also comes on when driving. Then once you stop and turn car off and restart it, the light will go out but comes on when driving down road. There is also an issue with the transmission. It slips when going into a different gear. It's like a hard jerk happens when car going into another gear. Car purchased from a Kernersville dealership. We made our 3rd trip there today. They finally decided to keep vehicle to see if they could figure out how these problems can be resolved. I had decided to do some research on what might be causing the problem when I seen that there was a lawsuit out for the exact problem I am having

Started burning a quart every 2000 miles at 69,500. Had my local garage change the breather and update the software. Fixed the problem, but at 85000 it has started burning a quart every 1000 miles.

The Audi A4 3.2 burns abount a quart every 2000 miles. Audi dealership told me that it was to spec. What spec??
- Mark M., Marshfield, MA, US
I just purchased the car at the end of December and I am burning oil at a rate of a qt per 1000 miles, obviously a huge problem. I see Audi has settled a class action suit, how do I participate? Love the car but this is ridiculous.

I have owned my Audi for about two months. Since my purchase date the car has needed oil twice. I have had to add oil to my car much to often. I haven't kept track of the miles or how much oil I have had to add. I didn't know this was going to become an frequent problem. I am going to start keeping a record of miles driven and amount of oil added.

My Audi needed oil every 3 to 400 miles, and still does. I lost the engine and went to Paul Miller Audi in NJ and spent over $7000 for an engine fix, after that I had to spend a few more thousand dollars to see why car is losing so much oil and constantly fixing stuff. I also had purchased an extended warranty from EFG which when time came to use, they said the engine failure condition was pre-existing at 53,000 miles and they would not cover the loss. Therefore I had to pay the $7000 to get the car back.
I still own the car but probably will sell it for nothing just to get rid off it. The car needs a Qt of oil every 3 to 400 miles. The car runs terrible. I am so disgusted with Audi and broke as well. I would appreciate your help in this matter ASAP. My phone number (973) 214.6698 and my email maryam.connelly@gmail.com.
Please help. Thanks, Maryam Connelly (973) 214.6698 maryam.connelly@gmail.com

The car has been a problem since day one. Broke down on ride from NJ to IL in the middle of nowhere PA. dealer towed it and I rented a car to get home. Jack Daniels Audi, was the worst dealer experience ever. I had to have NJ consumer affairs take action to get rental car money. I had to fly to PA to pick up the car than drive to IL at my expense, I only owned the car a week prior to break down. Audi dealer in PA fixed the car, and it needed a quart of oil to get home 800 miles. the car drank oil, 1 qt per 1000 miles. Audi told me "that's how they are" and it was disturbing that it always needed oil. I took it to Audi dealer in IL several times for "an oil leak fix" at least 3 "fixes". I needed the oil changed and a new battery, only 3 years old, and again the dealer did an oil leak fix. I was told drive 100 miles and come back, but during the 100 mile run the A4 died. It was towed back to Audi, again, and I was told the timing belt and tensioner failed. It would be replaced under warranty. a week later, when my one day repair still was not done, i called and I was told the engine must be rebuilt due to excessive oil consumption. a month later my car is done. I asked audi to take it back, they said no, asked them to ship me the car again they said no, I know full well no audi could make a cross country trip, and I don't want any more problems. This is THE WORST CAR I HAVE EVER OWNED!!!

The Audi/VW 2.0T engine needs to be recalled now for excessive oil consumption.
I took my 2009 A4 with this engine to the dealer for excessive oil consumption right before the 50K mile warranty ran out. They ran the dealer consumption test and concluded that the engine was in specification. However to be nice, they changed some seals under warranty (but of course not the expensive piston/rings which is the real problem).
The first complaint is that per their spec, an owner can use 8 quarts of oil between the recommended oil changes (do the math). No way should any car manufacturer be legally allowed to say that 1 quart per 1000 mi (or 600 mi per my manual) is normal for a 2009 car with moderate mileage.
Now my engine has 65K miles on it and is out of warranty. The problem has gotten got much, much worst. Now I have to put in a quart of the Audi recommended oil in every 360 miles!. If I need to accelerate hard to merge into traffic, so much smoke blows out the tail pipe that I am worried about the vision of the cars behind me.
So the second complaint is that this engine needs to be recalled because it is a super heavy polluter. All that $8 per quart oil smoke is going into our environment and our lungs!
Audi, do the right thing and take care of your problems, your customers, and the environment!!

2009 audi A4 2.0T Quattro with 68k miles. I just had the oils change less than 300miles ago and now the oil indicator are showing low, again. So far this is really annoying to see the car drain that much oils and just have it services and checked by the audi dealership. There are no leak or any kind happen to the car. dealer diagnose everything and find out the car is in excellent condition. This is my first time owning a German car. I do love the car but if the car and everything but if it keep burning oil like this much. I think I need to start trading it in for a car. So far this is the second time seeing this light come on with less than 1k miles. if this is thing continuous to do this it probably be my last audi. Yes, audi manufacturing my last audi. If they do not fixed the issue. I would high recommended new buyer that plan to buy any audi. Make sure you can afford the oils before buying this car. Because this car really burn oil. And I mean a lot. I think this is the biggest mistake buying this car without know this issue. Audi you should be really ashamed of your product and reputation. when building car like this. People need a reliable car to last a long time. Not just away checking the oils indicator. What make me mad is I just bought the car less than 1 week. If I know this is a serious issue I would not buy this car. I wish there is a way I can returned the car back to the dealer. For those audi A4 owner out there. I now know how you feel after I went to this same issue. Do your research first before buying any audi. Or else you will be post this ads like myself.

Add one quart of oil light started to appear around 47,000 miles. Called dealer immediately and was told this is standard for Audi A4. Since that time at approximately 400 miles prior to the next oil change, the ADD oil light comes on. IF this is standard for an Audi A4, why wasn't I told this by the salesperson. Went to four Audi dealerships and this was never mentioned. Would not have purchased if I was told this! Any one else experiencing this problem????

This is evidently a known problem for this model year. The car only has 70k miles! I'm going through a quart of oil every 250 miles. Mechanic says fix is either: new engine; used engine; new piston rings. All are over $6k.
