A6 2.7t

  • Automatic transmission
  • 81,000 miles

Through a little bit of research I found that the failure of the torque converter is quite common on this vehicle. Even the Audi dealership themselves admitted that the problem began with a seal that did not work as expected and causes the torque converter lock out clutch to fail prematurely. To make the situation better, The entire engine and transmission has to be removed from the vehicle to be able to replace the torque converter.

The Audi dealership was polite enough, though, to ensure me the new replacement torque converter ($900+) has been updated to "fix" the issue. Believe me, I do not feel better knowing that Audi was aware of an issue they had so they change the design of the new part but do not feel the failure constitutes any responsibility on their part.

...bless them all!
