I bought this car used from a used car dealer in Pasadena, CA. A friend drove it from CA to CO and had no problems. I took possession of the car on Jan. 30, 2020. Drove it from Evergreen, CO to Boulder, CO with no apparent problem. Later that day I took it in to have snow tires installed. Car wouldn't start when the installers were ready for it. It wouldn't start for me either despite the fact that it cranked very vigorously. Called for a tow and then decided to try again. It started after 2 or 3 tries so I cancelled the tow.
I drove it to a repair shop that specializes in German cars. They had it for approximately 2 weeks and could not diagnose the problem, then referred me to the Audi dealer feeling that they may have a better chance of diagnosing the problem because of more sophisticated equipment. They had it for 2 weeks and it started every time they tried it. I brought the car home and it stalled in my driveway as I was backing out to take it in for registering it in CO. After sitting for 20 minutes it started right up. I took it to get insurance and had an emissions test. It breezed through the emissions test.
I took it back down the next day to the vehicle department to have it re-titled in CO and to get license plates. Once again it died when backing out of a parking space. After sitting for 30 minutes it started right up. Today I was testing it to see if it would die again. On the third try it died when I put it into reverse. I checked to see if there was any pressure release in or out when I removed the gas cap. Didn't hear any pressure leakage. Tried to start several times to no avail. 45 minutes later it started up on the first try.
I would like input from someone that has had a similar problem as to the solution. It seems as though it is not getting fuel to the engine. Fuel pump is a complicated system with several sensors. Mechanics don't want to start replacing parts until they can get an accurate diagnosis because of the cost. Help!!!
