Q5 Limited 2.0L V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 99,844 miles

Was told by service department that the oil usage of 1 quart per thousand miles was normal. Only way to determine if abnormal wear to engine was to pull head and inspect. If no abnormal wear present, would owe ~$3500 shop fees.

Began to top off oil on weekly basis and started to take to non Audi shops for regular service.

Car is consuming excessive amounts of oil. After repeated attempts to fix the problem and spending more than $3,000, nothing has changed. If there is a class action lawsuit over this, sign me up. It will be the last Audi we will purchase. The dealer gave up trying to fix it and suggested that we trade it or drive it into the ground...

excessive oil consumption excessive oil consumption

Bought this Audi used with 8927 miles. Received from Audi an extended warranty until September, 2019 or 100,000 miles, whichever came first. Car always used a fair amount of oil, but in January of 2019 it became excessive. An Audi dealership did two oil consumption tests... 1st one was a quart in 1100 miles, the 2nd was in 1500 miles. However, they issued a report that the vehicle consumes 0.37 quarts of oil per 1000 miles and stated that was within the permissible range. That was a LIE!!

The Audi dealership passed on doing anything and referred me to Audi of America, where they slow waltz me until the warranty ran out. At that time the mileage was 74,052 miles. At approx. 77,500 miles a hole blew in the #2 cylinder. Repair cost was $3,226 (non-Audi repair shop).

Would cost me more than 3 grand to get an attorney. If anyone has any suggestions, please email me at dick@dickcoan.com.

Q5 Progressive 4 cyl. 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission

Started consuming oil around 100K (right when it went out of warranty). I first had to add 1 liter every 4500KM and now the car has 130,000 KM and I have to add 1 L every 800 KM. Audi suggested I carry oil in my trunk and replace engine when quits. $10K job. A "LUXURY" BRAND........

Oil consumption seems excessive, piston rings are leaking, white smoke is coming out of the exhaust system. Haven't had it fixed but it seems a common problem with the 2.0 TFSI.

Never will own another Audi.

I have owned many Audis since 2005, and this 2014 Q5 will be the last one. I also have a 2011 Audi A4 which had the same issue, and Audi did what they are supposed to do and fixed it. They refuse to acknowledge the same issue on my 2014 Q5 with the same engine claiming it that this model year, the oil consumption issue was fixed. My car stated consuming excessive engine oil after the warranty had expired. I contacted Audi many time and they still refused to do the right thing and fix my issue similar to what happened in my A4. I have to add a quart of oil every 900 miles, and it is getting worse as I add more miles to the vehicle - totally unacceptable and expected from a reputable auto maker like Audi.

Had hoped to keep this car for many years, but oil consumption has now reached a quart every 500 miles or so. Very disappointing for a luxury vehicle and German engineering. Have an Acura MDX with 230,000 miles that has yet to require any added oil.

Q5 Premium 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 65,000 miles

Almost every 2000 miles, I have to top off the engine oil. The light for low engine lights up that often. I had it checked for leaks by two different places ( one was dealer) and nothing found. Dealer says this is normal. No one I know with other vehicles or any of my previous vehicles have exhibited such excessive oil consumption. Recommended 5W-40 is rare too. Not even the dealer uses it. So they use 5W-30 which can be substituted. However, it makes no difference to the consumption. I wonder at what point I would call my engine oil changed when I go to change it, as it always brand new oil in there.

I have not had a car use oil since a high mileage 1969 Chevy Impala.I apparently now have one in my Q5!. I was told because I am using synthetic oil, I can go 10000 miles between oil change service. So after the last change, I was getting it every 5000, warning light popped on after about 7500 saying add oil! Tried to get the right oil at several gas stations, and they did not carry the recommended synthetic oil. Did not want to chance voiding a warranty, so took it in for oil change Service told me that the vehicle should use a quart of oil approximately every 7500 miles. I see other model years apparently have had the same problem.

Not happy....
