Q5 Premium Plus 2.0L Turbo

  • Automatic transmission
  • 98,000 miles

A car with 98,000 should not burn 1 quart of oil every 150 - 200 miles. Yes, that is right, 2 quarts of oil per tank of gas. I have a Volvo with 126,000 and a Porsche with 155,000 and neither burn any oil.

Q5 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 67,000 miles

Bought my Audi Q5 with 62,000 miles on it. Was unaware that it was burning oil until I drove it approximatley 2500 miles and the "oil low,add one quart of oil" came on. I've had to add a quart of oil about very 2000 miles. Very disapointed that this is happening. I thought I would be good since it only had 62,000 miles on it.

Q5 Premium Plud 2.9L Qutrro

  • Automatic transmission
  • 78,000 miles

I have an Audi 2014 Q5 2.0 (78k miles) and for the last four months, I started having excessive oil consumption issues. I checked with a local oil change store and they said that there is a no oil leaks - however, when I googled there are multiple similar issues popped up as well some lawsuits. I wanted to know if there are any current lawsuit open in Georgia where my problem can be considered.

I have appointment with Audi to see if they can identify an issue because I am afraid that dealer would easily charge min 2k to fix an issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

Update from Jan 4, 2023: Audi dealership in Atlanta ran diagnostics and informed me that it require piston replacement which cost me around 10k. When I asked about warranty then they said that its normal wear & tear so nothing they can do.

Q5 Premium 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 65,000 miles

I have owned 8 VW's in my life, and when I bought this 2014 Audi Q5, it was my first upgrade to the Audi family.

If I could rewind, I would have never bought an Audi. The first failure was the air conditioner failing. Then, the paint started pealing on the front of this brand new car. At 72k, the timing belt failed early. That's also when the transmission started slipping, and the excessive oil started to burn. The car is currently at 81k, and I have to put in 1 quart of oil every 300 to 400 miles. It's absolutely nuts. An official Audi mechanic told me (off the record) to offload it as soon as I can, because this engine is known to be a lemon.

In my best judgement, I cannot recommend the Audi brand to anyone. I would avoid them like the plague. For a car this expensive, it shouldn't be this miserable to own.

Q5 2.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 72,000 miles

Audi is consuming oil at about 1 quart every 500 miles. Spoke to Audi and they said oil consumption is normal, which is ridiculous, but said it's a problem if less than 1 quart every 1200 miles. Quoted around $9K to repair pistons and piston rings. The car only has 74k miles.

I researched this problem and Audi settled a class action suit for previous Q5 year but apparently the problem still is present in new year. Mine is 2014. Want to join a class action suit if possible as they should recall these vehicles and fix them on Audi's tab.

Q5

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

I own a 2014 Audi Q5. It started consuming excessive amounts of oil at around 60,000 miles after my warranty ran out. I have done 3 oil consumption tests with the Audi dealer. Originally they said they would work with Audi to fix this problem, but now they are changing their tune. Looks like this is an ongoing problem with faulty pistons with many Audi Q5s, but Audi refuses to cover this. Does anyone have these same issues and any advice on this?

Was told by service department that the oil usage of 1 quart per thousand miles was normal. Only way to determine if abnormal wear to engine was to pull head and inspect. If no abnormal wear present, would owe ~$3500 shop fees.

Began to top off oil on weekly basis and started to take to non Audi shops for regular service.

Car is consuming excessive amounts of oil. After repeated attempts to fix the problem and spending more than $3,000, nothing has changed. If there is a class action lawsuit over this, sign me up. It will be the last Audi we will purchase. The dealer gave up trying to fix it and suggested that we trade it or drive it into the ground...

excessive oil consumption excessive oil consumption

Bought this Audi used with 8927 miles. Received from Audi an extended warranty until September, 2019 or 100,000 miles, whichever came first. Car always used a fair amount of oil, but in January of 2019 it became excessive. An Audi dealership did two oil consumption tests... 1st one was a quart in 1100 miles, the 2nd was in 1500 miles. However, they issued a report that the vehicle consumes 0.37 quarts of oil per 1000 miles and stated that was within the permissible range. That was a LIE!!

The Audi dealership passed on doing anything and referred me to Audi of America, where they slow waltz me until the warranty ran out. At that time the mileage was 74,052 miles. At approx. 77,500 miles a hole blew in the #2 cylinder. Repair cost was $3,226 (non-Audi repair shop).

Would cost me more than 3 grand to get an attorney. If anyone has any suggestions, please email me at dick@dickcoan.com.

Started consuming oil around 100K (right when it went out of warranty). I first had to add 1 liter every 4500KM and now the car has 130,000 KM and I have to add 1 L every 800 KM. Audi suggested I carry oil in my trunk and replace engine when quits. $10K job. A "LUXURY" BRAND........

Never will own another Audi.

I have owned many Audis since 2005, and this 2014 Q5 will be the last one. I also have a 2011 Audi A4 which had the same issue, and Audi did what they are supposed to do and fixed it. They refuse to acknowledge the same issue on my 2014 Q5 with the same engine claiming it that this model year, the oil consumption issue was fixed. My car stated consuming excessive engine oil after the warranty had expired. I contacted Audi many time and they still refused to do the right thing and fix my issue similar to what happened in my A4. I have to add a quart of oil every 900 miles, and it is getting worse as I add more miles to the vehicle - totally unacceptable and expected from a reputable auto maker like Audi.

Had hoped to keep this car for many years, but oil consumption has now reached a quart every 500 miles or so. Very disappointing for a luxury vehicle and German engineering. Have an Acura MDX with 230,000 miles that has yet to require any added oil.

Q5 Premium 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 65,000 miles

Almost every 2000 miles, I have to top off the engine oil. The light for low engine lights up that often. I had it checked for leaks by two different places ( one was dealer) and nothing found. Dealer says this is normal. No one I know with other vehicles or any of my previous vehicles have exhibited such excessive oil consumption. Recommended 5W-40 is rare too. Not even the dealer uses it. So they use 5W-30 which can be substituted. However, it makes no difference to the consumption. I wonder at what point I would call my engine oil changed when I go to change it, as it always brand new oil in there.
