Q5 Premium Plus 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 64,123 miles

Only serviced at dealers. Completely followed all maintenance. Started using oil at 64,000, took it in and the dealer said your head needs resealing and charged me 1,800 bucks to do that. Then it really started losing oil.

Now at a quart for 250 miles. Took it back and now I'm told to pay 200 bucks for oil consumption test part 1. Like they didn't believe me on the oil usage. I then need to take it back and pay 200 bucks for part 2 of the test where they check compression and see if rings are bad. They tell me they are 100 percent sure it is the rings, if so then why make me pay the extra 400 bucks? The tell me the ring replacement would be 8K.

Look on the internet, Audi makes terrible 2.0 liter engines that start to crap out between 50 and 80K miles. I've owned many cars in my life including. Ford Pinto, Plymouth Champ, Mitsubishi Sapporo, 3 different Chrysler minivans and 3 Hondas. All got over 100K miles and did not use oil. Audi needs to take responsibility for this, Buy a high priced car and get a piece of crap that is now basically worthless with no help at all from Audi.

Q5 2.0t

  • Automatic transmission
  • 113,000 miles

So, I bought this vehicle in November of 2022. About a week after I got it the oil light came on. I took it to my mechanic and he changed the oil and checked for any visible issues. He saw none. However, about 2 weeks later the light came back on. I stopped in and asked my mechanic and he reiterated that there were no visible signs of any issues and to contact the Audi dealer.

I contacted my local dealership and they instructed me to keep track of the frequency of having to add oil, which I did for about a month. I contacted them again and they did the oil consumption part 1 test. 10 days later the car was back in their garage for part 2. They determined that there is a significant compression issue in piston 3 and the vehicle is using approximately 2.54 liters of oil per 1,000 miles and the repair is over $8,000!

Q5 LX 2.0L. 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 64,475 miles

Purchased 2016 Audi Q5 new. At approx. 64000 mi. started using oil. I called Audi corporate and they suggested I obtain an oil consumption test ($203) and compression test ($535) at my dealer - Cochran Audi, Monroeville, Pa.

The oil consumption test failed (1.94 quarts/1000 mi.) Passing is 1.0 quart/1200 mi. The compression test also failed to a minimal extent. Following notification of Corporate service I was told Cochran Audi would call me. They never did. Numerous calls to Cochran were never returned. Corporate Audi stated Cochran Audi would be responsible for any financial assistance. Piston failure is a notorious problem with these models with volumes of data addressing this problem. Estimate to repair defective pistons $8215! I would appreciate your help in this matter.

Q5 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 111,000 miles

My 2016 Audi Q5 started burning oil about 3 years into me having it. When I started to notice I needed to add oil very 1100 miles, I mentioned this to Audi and their response was this is normal and you just need to monitor and make sure to add oil when it the light goes on. I continued to do this up to when I was seeing the consumption getting down to around 600 miles or less and needing a quart of oil.

I took it into Audi as I now am getting concerned. They did the famous oil consumption test and of course agreed that I was consuming oil. They basically said at this point and after my warranty expired that it would cost me up to 5-6K to repair. This was to meet me half way and of course while they were in there they needed to replace the timing belt. I explained to them that I had the regular maintenance done at their dealership, after that ended I took it to a local automotive shop which they could see in there records and further explained that this seems to be an existing issue and the cost to me should be 0.

Well you can guess where that lead. Basically it was take it or leave it. So I declined to pay for something that was Audi’s issue. I continued to add oil carrying a 5 quart container with me everywhere I went.

Fast forward to July 2022. I am driving and all of a sudden the car begins to rattle and low and behold after taking it to my trusty local automotive shop they test the compression and see that one piston is at 25 psi compared the the standard 170psi. Thus the result of me now having an Audi that sits in my driveway and needing a new engine. I contacted Audi and there is nothing they will do for me.

Won’t buy Audi ever again.

This is very bad. The manufacturer knows the problem. They dragged the problem to out of warranty. They were sued in the state of California. Do you know if there is an ongoing law suit in New York State?
