Q7 Premium Plus V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 82,000 miles

I am gonna send the same info I sent Audi but got a cold reply they cannot do anything.

Vehicle: 2017 Audi Q7 Premium Plus VIN: WA1LAAF72HD048313

Good Morning,

I hope you are doing well.

I am writing to formally request Audi’s immediate assistance regarding a catastrophic engine failure in my 2018 Audi Q7 Premium Plus with fewer than 90,000 miles. This matter raises serious concerns regarding both vehicle quality and safety.

My vehicle has been exclusively serviced at authorized Audi dealerships throughout ownership. Most recently, while driving on the highway, the vehicle suddenly stalled without warning, creating a dangerous situation at highway speeds. This unexpected engine failure placed me and other drivers at significant risk.

As a result, I was forced to arrange emergency transportation of the vehicle to:

Byers Imports Audi VW 401 North Hamilton Road Columbus, OH 43213 (614) 864-5180

The emergency transport cost me approximately $1,000 out of pocket.

Following inspection at Byers, I was informed that the engine must be replaced. The dealership quoted approximately $30,000 for a new engine or $16,000 for a used engine — a cost that effectively renders the vehicle economically totaled.

The most recent diagnostic/service record from Byers documenting this failure can be accessed here:

https://c.xtime.com/m59lo_fkEAEA1BGVXX#/

This situation is especially troubling given that:

The vehicle has fewer than 90,000 miles.

All scheduled maintenance has been completed at Audi dealerships.

The prior 80K service just few weeks back indicated no significant issues.

I have invested approximately $8,000 in the last six months alone (new tires, brake pads, and other maintenance).

I carried an extended service contract to 100,000 miles, which I am now told recently expired as well.

Additionally, prior to this failure, the vehicle repeatedly prompted for additional oil (approximately one quart intermittently). I raised this concern with the dealership and was told that oil consumption is “normal” for German vehicles. In light of the present engine failure — and the ongoing independent investigation and class-action inquiry regarding oil consumption issues in certain Audi 3.0T engines (https://sauderschelkopf.com/automotive/audi-3-0t-engine-oil-consumption-class-action-investigation/ ) — this prior explanation raises serious concern that this may not be an isolated issue.

An engine failure under 90,000 miles in a fully dealer-maintained luxury vehicle — particularly one resulting in a sudden highway stall — does not meet reasonable expectations of durability, reliability, or safety.

Given the documented service history, prior oil consumption concerns, the dangerous nature of the stall, the substantial recent financial investment in the vehicle, and the extraordinary cost of repair, I respectfully request:

Full goodwill coverage for the engine replacement

I would appreciate escalation of this matter to a regional case manager for formal review. Please let me know what additional documentation you require.

I have valued the Audi brand and would strongly prefer to resolve this matter cooperatively and promptly.

Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to your response.

Q7 Prestige 3.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

My 2018 Q7 was well cared for and just had an inspection when the engine failed at 70,000 miles. I was told it is nearly 20,000 just to fully diagnose. They categorized as engine failure and will need major engine repair. They used a camera and can see there is something catastrophic with a valve, but couldn’t see any further. Audi has recognized an engine issue with my 2018 SQ5 3.0 engine, but not this car of the same year. They have granted an extended warranty on the 2018 SQ5 engine. I can’t believe I have two cars which engine fail at such low miles! I have submitted a request for goodwill repair with the main Audi number. I will update.

This car has had several problems which the mechanic attributed to normal Audi repairs. They told me the cars are made with lots of small plastic pieces now that break easily. The car quit in the mid 50K which they attributed to spark plugs wearing out early.
