2005.5 Audi S4. Has the bi-xenon headlights that swivel around corners. The problem is that the driver's side headlight would flicker and eventually turn off at random. Both headlights would sometimes turn off as well at random after the flickering. As you would know, it's a very dangerous hazard for your lights to flicker and turn off while driving at night! I first noticed the problem sometime mid 2012. As time passed, the flickering would happen more and more. It became so bad at one point that I actually dreaded turning on my headlights! I went to the dealership to have it fixed. I was told that the tech could not replicate the problem. So I just chucked it off as a fluke and had gone away on it's own. Boy was I wrong. The problem started happening as soon as I was on the highway driving home that day. So on another day, I brought the car in for the same problem, and showed a video and picture of the issue. Service advisor took the car in. A few hours later, same thing: tech could not replicate the problem. I was flabbergasted. I couldn't believe why the tech could not replicate the problem when the problem happened all the time! I took the car to a different dealership. Here I was told that the problem could be the bulb or the igniter, or both. But the recommended changing both due to the car's age and to eliminate all possible causes of the issue. Both options cost $$$$$! So I took to online forums and apparently it's quite a common issue with cars with headlights like these. Some suggested I change the bulb first and that the bulbs are less inexpensive online. So at an online seller, I bought a genuine set of bulbs($200 both bulbs) for far less the cost of what the dealer was asking. Brought the car to a local garage and the mechanic changed the bulbs for less than $100. Problem solved. No more flickering. No random turning off of headlights. Been problem-free ever since.
