The mechanism in power windows ( mechanical mechanism in the doors which raise and lower the windows ) appear to be faulty. After normal usage for a short period of time ( 3 weeks to a maximum of 6 months ), there are repeated failures of the mechanical mechanism and power windows once again fail to function. Although the issue at hand has been fixed by BMW numerous times ( some under warranty and some at owners cost), it is a repeating problem and BMW service provider does not appear to have a solution which would resolve the issue for a long period of time. Since the vehicle at this time is out of warranty and mostly driven by one driver ( me ), a greater use of ac is made in order not to use the power windows in case they will break once again.

Re. BMW 328I, year 2000. There have been three power window mechanism failures on this car. This is "more than it's fair share". these failures are very expensive to repair. Has there been a recall or tsb on this? thank you, sam keller.

Left side driver window will not make final power up after shutting door if the window has been partially opened or closed previously. The only way to make the window close tightly is to power down the window completely and then power up completely with no stopping part way.

1. the rear right window would make a click sound when trying to close/open. 2. the window stopped responding to the power button and would not go up/down. The window glass then slid down by itself. Since I was driving I could not do anything. My infant was in the back seat and the window glass came down and would not close. The wind was coming creating safety hazard. I stopped to bring the glass up by hand but it would not stay up and slid down all the time. 3. II had to get the window regulator changed which cost $260. This window was very rarely used for up/down through the power switch.

The window regulators on my car have been replaced a total of 9 times. Per my service advisors, the parts/design is defective. The first seven were replaced under warranty. The last two on Nov 14, 2003 were not. The cost to replace was $ $456.38.

My rear subframe totally seperated from my vechicle costing 1600 to fix. I was not in an accident, it broke on its own. BMW informed me that this is "normal wear and tear, " but I think its a recall issue. There are a number of people with these problems. Also my moonroof bent the tracks, and now needs total replacement. BMW also has a number of complaints regarding window regulators.
