I have a complaint/situation with my 2007 BMW 328ix sedan. BMW refuses to repair at their cost a significant life safety fuel problem. On August 1, 2014 while driving along a paved street in pullman Washington, the cars engine abruptly shut down without warning. I was barely able to get the vehicle off the road. I had the vehicle towed to camp BMW in spokane Washington for examination and repair. The following Monday, I received a call from the service department and was told the fuel pump went out and the repair would cost about $700 and would be repaired that day. Shortly thereafter, I received a call from the service rep who said they discovered the problem to be worse than expected. The fuel pump had a draw tube that drew fuel to the fuel pump and I was told it fell off and they were trying unsuccessfully to fish it out of the fuel tank, and that the vehicle would not be ready that day. I started an internet search and found this is happening to other BMW's of approximately the same age/model. What was alarming was that comments I was seeing indicated that the draw tube that fell off in other BMW's had done so because the fuel grade required for BMW's were corrosive to the draw tube and the fuel ate away at the tubes until they fell off with the same result of immediate engine shut down. Indications from others with this problem indicated that dealerships told them the only solution was to replace the fuel pump, tank and draw tube for upwards of $3,000. A replacement tank and fuel tank will have the same problem in another 7 years or less and it's a very expensive repair not to mention a life safety issue. My service rep contacted BMW about this issue and BMW told him they would credit my repairs for the sum of $500 bring my cost for the repairs in excess of $1,900.

Sensor in fuel tank did not report amount of gas in tank to dash. Car did not have any gas but reported a quarter tank. While driving at roughly 45 miles an hour, car suddenly died in center lane. Barely had enough time to pull over. The worst part is I was about to enter the highway and my speed would have been roughly 70-75 mph. On a highway, had my car died in the same manner my safety would have been compromised! I ended up blocking a street with oncoming traffic and was unable to move car alone. Dealership stated the sensor is a part of the whole tank and the tank must be replaced. However, because it is a sensor issue might have to be replaced again in the future. This is defect!

The contact owns a 2007 BMW 328I. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph the vehicle would suddenly stall without warning. The vehicle was towed to a dealer and they advised him that the fuel pump had failed. The vehicle was repaired. A few days later the vehicle suddenly stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to a dealer and they advised him that there was a loose connection in the fuel tank. The vehicle was repaired again by connecting the tank in place. The vehicle suddenly stalled a third time and it was towed to the same dealer who advised him that the fuel gauge wasn't working and he didn't have any gasoline in the tank. The fuel gauge was repaired. The failure occurred again and the contact was waiting to for the diagnosis. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

I have a 1999 BMW 328I that I purchased in 2005 for $25,000 I just purchased a 2007 BMW 328xi on may with 54K miles on 11/1/10 it turned out that I bought a $35,000 death trap with the doors not opening or the gas tank to take it to the dealership so now it just sits there in my driveway. My 1999 with still does that same problem but off and on not like this 2007 death trap. I'm never ever buying a BMW again.

I had just purchased a brand new BMW 328I. We were driving on I-5 from los angeles to san francisco. I was accompanied by my husband and two dogs. We were traveling ~80 miles per hour in the left lane. All of the sudden and without warning, the engine turned completely off on the vehicle. I lost power steering and breaking and had no other option than to glide into the center median. Unfortunately, there was not sufficient room for the vehicle, so the right tires were in the left lane of traffic. We called BMW assist, but they said they would not pick us up because we had dogs in the car. We were stuck in the median for nearly one hour, around a bend in the freeway, where other cars could not see us well until the last minute. A California state trooper together with a tow truck finally rescued us from the center median. He said we were in grave danger, which we obviously knew. After the incident I called the beverly hills BMW dealership, where we purchased the vehicle, and spoke with the manager and reported the issue to BMW assist. I was furious that a vehicle would turn off at that speed. They told me they would document the claim but that no other incidences of this had been reported. The latter is inaccurate, as many people apparently have had the exact same issue.

1. high pressure fuel pump issue on May 21st led to the car stalling while driving and turning. Also put the car in "limp mode" (reduced power). Also, run-flat tires on the car have all bubbled/popped- have had car only for 5 months with 6800 miles. 2. car stalled numerous times while driving and would stall almost every time when car was stopped at a stop sign or red light. Before bringing the car in for service three days later the car stalled at least 5 times- BMW replaced the fuel pump yesterday.
