Vehicle was idling rough. Would periodically accelerate without pressing the gas pedal. It would then go into limp mode. And display Services engine soon light. I took the valve cover off to inspect the camshafts and found the camshaft adjuster gear bolts were all loose. 5 of the 8 bolts were snapped off. 2 of the 5 missing bolt heads were found in the head of the engine 3 were found in the oil pan. If I did not discover the bolts were broken the timing chain could have slipped off causing an accident.

The engine made noise and then turned off. Would not restart. BMW dealer diagnosed the problem as a failed exhaust camshaft Vanos unit. BMW refuses to repair it even though it the engine, model and year fit the Vanos recall. This is the second BMW vehicle I have owned that failed for this reason, but was outside the covered claimed VIN numbers. I am requesting that you investigate this as wider range of vehicles, fitting the recall description exactly, but not covered, are failing...this vehicle is a 2011 with only 62,000 miles. I would also like a list of the VIN numbers currently affected.

The contact owns a 2011 BMW 328I. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was a rattling sound coming from under the hood. The check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic that the bolts were missing from the exhaust VANOS camshaft unit side and the other bolts had backed out on the intake side and needed to be replaced. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that no recall existed for VANOS bolts. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000.

Due to this recall other parts of my vehicle are failing and it is frustrating that my vehicle overheats regularly especially when it is hot outside. The recall has been for a year but BMW has not come up with a remedy for this problem. We had to pay $951.67 in 2022 to get our vehicle inspected but they said if the recall was fixed I would not have had the issue I had. Please push BMW to fix this issue.

The camshaft gear bolts on my car broke causing it to stall in a roadway. Upon further investigation BMW did issue a recall for this very well known problem to them however they decided to EXCLUDE the station wagon models. All of these cars have the exact same engine whether its the coupe, sedan, or convertible. All the same exact engine. My car is a station wagon which was excluded. This is a major issue for all owners of these cars. BMW used aluminum bolts in this location and they end up shearing off causing major engine damage. BMW needs to remedy this issue by adding the station wagon cars to the recall. This problem should have been fixed years ago.

BMW has Recall: #22V-119:407 - POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION (PCV) VALVE HEATER still open with no remedy in sight. It has been months if not a year already (or longer) and I am waiting, together with thousands of BMW owners to get this issue fixed. It is totally unacceptable that a company as BMW leaves their customers hanging and allowing them to drive unsafe cars due to their laziness to fix this. What is NHTSA going to do about this? Thanks. Happy New Year!

This car has a heater problem with the PCV that causes the car to not run in cold weather. The PCV fails intermittently and the car will not idle or run in cold weather. BMW issued this recall in March but it is not November and they have offered no fix for this. It is a safety issue and it's also affecting how the car runs. How could we be 8 months into this without a fix?

My 2011 328i convertible has the Vanos Cam shaft bolts broken, and the dealership never said anything about the recall for this issue. When I brought it to their attention they gave me a bill for $800 to find what I told them was wrong with the car. For the 10 years I had the car I have only use one dealership for repairs, and had an additional warranty on my vehicle and NOTHING was said about the bolt heads breaking off on the sprocket cam

The Vanos Cam Tensioners bolts were a known issue (to back out and shear inside of the engine) in my car and a few years prior, and BMW recalled 150,000~ and gave 170,000~ vehicles a 10year unlimited mile warranty on the issue. My car had this issue a month ago and BMW would not help (a year out of the warranty with only 74,000 miles). A BMW dealer diagnosed it and I got it repaired at an independent shop for $5,000+. I-??ve seen other people have this issue after the warranty so obviously 10 years was not sufficient. This issue can lead to stalling while driving and rough running. Luckily, I heard the awful noise from my engine before it got worse and could-??ve been catastrophic/dangerous. The car did not even have a CEL at the time. This can be a dangerous thing to happen and BMW did not fix all vehicles that were affected which is crazy to me, I also never got even a notice in my 2 1/2 years of ownership! Thank you guys for your time, I am hoping BMW will make this right, but I can-??t believe such a large company would try and let something this serious go.

The bolts for my VANOS adjuster unit failed at approximately 143,000 miles on my 2011 328i xDrive Wagon (chassis code E91). In 2014, BMW issued a recall (campaign No. 14V-176) for this exact issue. On the first page under the "Model" section, it is stated that the E91 chassis is affected. However, on the second page, the E91 chassis is not listed under "Affected Vehicles". When checking the VIN number, my car does not have an open recall regarding this issue. However, the engine equipped in my car is also equipped in other models that are eligible for the recall, and my engine is clearly suffering from the exact failure described by the recall. I request the NHTSA to investigate why BMW did not include my model in this recall, and require BMW to issue the recall for my model.

The VANOS adjustment unit develops an internal oil leakage that will no longer allow the VANOS to adjust quickly enough. This will result in activation of the engine emergency mode and the engine malfunction will become permanently active. BMW Service bulletin that is applicable: SI B11 07 14 Recall Campaign 14V-176 Documentation was inspected by local BMW dealership. They denied the recall due to the VIN not being attached to the Service Bulletin and Recall Campaign. Background: My VIN has motor type N52K and vehicle production is April 2011. The vehicle was running rough and had developed an oil leak from the oil pan gasket. The current service bulletin it states: -??Affected Vehicles: This recall involves certain E70, E71, E82, E88, E89, E90, E92, F10 and F25 vehicle-??s with the N51, N52K and N52T engines produced from September 2009 to November 2011.-??

There is a safety recall on my car. This recall involves an engine component known as the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve heater. The PCV valve heater may not have been produced to specifications which could lead to a short circuit. BMW DOES NOT HAVE AN AVAILABLE REMEDY FOR THIS RECALL AND DOES NOT HAVE ANY TIMELINE FOR FIXING IT.

Upon starting my vehicle there is a strong smell of gasoline in the cabin. The car was making a noise that has been diagnosed by a mechanic as engine failure and this vehicle is only 10 years old. This car is my only means of transportation. I need someone to help figure out what to do with it. These cars are too costly to consumers to be just be dead in a year span. There is no possible way the manufacture is unaware of these issues. My car has had a burning smell that could never be located by the dealer. Though it all there are still zero safety lights to point me in any direction.. how can it be possible that something seeming so unstable have no warning lights to give indication that something is wrong with it. I-??m just tired of all these entities being able to deliberately falsify information to entice me to purchase a vehicle knowing it has failures and safety issues. I don-??t have another car. I want to use the one l already paid for. I need someone who cares to help me. I shouldn-??t be fearful for my life driving a vehicle on the road. If someone can please look into what can be done by the manufacturer, I would appreciate it. The dealer deems this vehicle inoperable.. where do I go from here"?"
