Bought 9/2018 with 53,555 miles CPO from BMW deals hip.
Repeated (at least 5+) check engine light (CEL) and drive train malfunction alerts. Car brought to BMW for all services.
The EGR cooler was replaced due to recall. Since then, replaced the dpf temp sensor x2, egr valve failed on a different sensor (not covered) which cost nearly $900.00 to replace. Car was recently taken in for another CEL, was told same codes popped up and component replaced EGR (or temp sensor)?
They kept it over night and drove it next day after "repair" however, CEL came on. So, they kept car to investigate further.
Received call from Service Manager telling me that basically, I am fu*d. Fuel was found in the wire harness that connects to the fuel pump, injectors, DDE, turbo charger, EGR, etc. The cost of repairs would exceed the value of the car. She had spoken with BMW and they didn't offer solution WTF?! So now I have to contact/complain. I spoke with head mechanic and he explained issues and had no idea how it happened. Now I am waiting for full report. So that I have all of the details and extent of damage...
Just in case you're wondering, I was not able to get extended warranty since car was over 50k miles when I purchased it. Purchase price was $25,600.00 and still owe BMW $7800.00!!!
Wondering why this happened? I have kept up with service (obviously) DEF levels and have always low Sulphur diesel, etc.
Any BMW diesel, diesel mechanics, engineers or owners who have experienced this "phenomenon"? It seems like something got missed as this had been a repeated problem. I may also need a good lawyer?**
