On January 7, 2022 I was driving in the neighborhood and applied the brake to stop. As the car was slowing down, the engine revved to 3,000 RPM making stopping difficult. I came to a full stop and the engine continued to rev. I quickly lifted my foot off the brake pedal and re-applied the brake pedal and the RPM returned to idle. On the same day about an hour later, I experienced the same issue at a shopping center, only this time the engine RPM suddenly increased to 4,000 RPM. I tried to place the transmission in Park, but it wouldn't let me. I temporarily lifted my foot off the brake pedal and re-applied and the RPM returned to normal. In both cases I was able to bring the car to a full stop but had to apply heavy pressure on the pedal.

2016 BMW 428I. Consumer writes in regards to unintended acceleration. The consumer stated while stopped with foot on the brake, the engine accelerated causing the vehicle to surge about half a car length into an intersection. There was nothing touching the accelerator pedal. The consumer injured her ankle from pressing the brakes forcefully to stop the vehicle from accelerating.
