Noticed, rear carpets were flooded after a heavy rain fall, this happened several times this summer. I had to remove each door panel and peel the vapor barrier off. I noticed that the vapor barrier was loose at the lower corner where it meets the B_pillar water leakage area. BMW is having quality issues. Also noticed that the butyl was not applied all the way around the door panel. Top inside section 3 inches was omitted ( why) . Now the fun part begins by removing all the old Butyl seal and cleaning around the door (contact area). I suggest you pinch and pull on it comes off like gum. very time consuming
Once clean I applied 3M 3/16 bead of new Butyl tape ( $25 a roll NAPA AUTO PARTS) this stuff is normally used around the windshield for sealing. Why is BMW using it around the door to hold a foam vapor barrier?. I believe this is not the correct application for Butyl!
