My car has not been fixed yet. BMW North America would like to charge me $17,000, but are willing to give me a 25% discount for their mistake.
My car stopped w/o warning on the morning of Oct. 12, 2018. The default code was for HPFP, which they agreed to fix free of charge with the extended warranty. But, 3 weeks later, I get a call from service manager stating that my car has engine failure and I need to pay them $17,000. I cried like a baby. I told him he had to explain to me how 3 weeks ago, no code gave him engine failure, but now it does. Hogwash... Yes, I'm from the South.
8 days or so passed while I tried to negotiate with BMW North America regarding their issue and register a complaint on the NHTSA.gov website, low and behold, a RECALL regarding my car's EGR Cooler appeared.
Let's see.. EGR Cooler plus HPFP failure = ENGINE FAILURE in my book.
I'm very lucky to be alive. (1) because morning rush hour traffic was about to begin when my car stopped without warning. Thank God officer friendly was passing my way and parked behind me and (2) all BMW models like mine in Korea are catching on FIRE. That is the only reason that BMW North America is doing a RECALL in the USA now. And they won't send the letters out until Dec. 18. They've admitted to the Korea catastrophe in August and has issued a 1.6 million vehicle worldwide recall. Why does it take so long to do a recall in USA. 5 month have passed. These cars have caught fire just sitting idle for 12 hours or more. They ought to be ashamed of themselves. This is not new. This happened in 2010 also. Chris Comuo did a report when he was working for ABC News at the time.
My car cost $57,000 and now they want another $17,000 for a car that may cause me more problems in the future. I'm so disappointed and I'm afraid it will never be the same.
