Driver side front airbag deployment fault because of defective mat in driver side front seat. I have had it to the dealer four times and they have said there was a recall for the same fault on the passenger side but BMW has not yet recalled the driver side mat. This fault renders the driver side front airbag inactive and will not deploy even if the appropriate level of impact occurs.

Occupancy sensor / front passenger airbag system. The passenger airbag off warning lamp lights up with a passenger in the front seat. This is a certified pre-owned car purchased late January 2009. This occurs about 2-3 times per month. Sept 2009, after months of complaining and having the dealer tell me they can not duplicate the problem the replaced the sensor mat in the seat. This was covered in EA08-001 and should have been done before the car was offered for sale. Later that same month the warning light went off again.
