sunroof exploded sunroof exploded

Was driving up to Dallas from Houston and out of nowhere, I heard a loud "BANG!". It sounded like a gunshot. The next thing I heard was cracking and I then saw glass in my rear view mirror flying off the back of my X1. I could hear shards falling into the shade above me. When I pulled off the freeway and into a service station under an awning, I got out and saw the front sunroof glass completely shattered. BMW did great helping me and got me loaner vehicle within an hour or so. Unfortunately, here I am a week later, still with loaner and I just heard that it is going to cost me $1,700 dollars to replace just the front glass of the sunroof. That is completely insane. It's mind numbing how crazy expensive that is for a piece of glass. Apparently, this has happened to other BMW's and there is a class actions lawsuit going on? You'd think that BMW would recall these and fix them. I'm one of the fortunate ones as I kept my cool and was able to get to safety. Others, not so much.
