X3 I28 4 cyl Turbo

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,383 miles

I have a 2013 BMW X3 i28 4-cylinder turbo with 70 383 miles. I have maintained it regularly through my BMW service center here in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. I was away and had my car since I brought it north on the auto train to save wear and tear and mileage. Unfortunately, on July 14th, I was headed from Buffalo, NY, to Rhode Island on the NYS thruway when my engine died on me; thank god I could get it to a shoulder, or I would have been dead, seeing there were a few semis behind me. I called a tow truck, a nightmare since tow companies have a monopoly on towing off state thruways.

It was towed to Towne BMW in Williamsville, NY, They did a diagnostic, and it was only the battery, so they said. So I went and returned my rental car and paid my bill, the time was now 6:00 pm, and I was good to go, so they said. I didn't even make it across the street, and the engine did the same thing. This time they tell me my engine has seized up, and oh well, too bad, not their problem. They never gave me a diagnosis of what was completed on both days, and they continued to make a new narrative on the issue.

Someone will pay before I am done, I have contacted BMW of North America, and if they can't figure something out, it's time to go to court. I am not backing down on this, and I could have been killed twice when they knew these engines had severe problems.

I will also take the dealership to court because that engine was turning over the night before it was towed across the street from their service center, and the tow driver can verify that. So I will know more in less than two weeks, and if I get someone to take on a class action, I'll let everyone know.

Best,

engine shut down while driving engine shut down while driving

I was driving on the freeway and without warning ⚠️ my engine lost power. I couldn’t pull off the road entirely, I could have had a dangerous crash. The mechanic said no compression.

The solution was to replace engine.

I purchased used at 82,000 and after my very first oil change a few days later, my BMW X3 2013 is not drivable.

Driving on highway and motor just stopped, went into neutral, never started again, one shop says engine seized, engine does not turn over by hand. Currently taking engine out to find the actual issue.
