A car on the opposite side of traffic hit the puddle, causing it to splash into the front grill of the x5. Once the x5 took in the water, it reduced power to engine, traction control acted up and the x5 lost lots of power. While in traffic restarted the car, it helped a little and then the sensors came on again. At the dealer, the air filters were replaced, intake pressure sensor and mass airflow sensor cleaned. They also did a compression test and checked for water in transmission.
How can an suv that can go in water as deep as fully submerging wheels almost get the engine hydro seized. I guess in a controlled test, the car was placed in an empty pool, then filled. Now in the real world, a river would have current or debris floating by, which can cause water to enter intake. Now I either pull over or stop when traffic is coming in wet areas.
