Engine malfunction light and car overheating caused by water pump, there's no recall for my VIN but it seems this is an ongoing issue with BMW X5 models... the BMW did a recall on my X5 and after they finished the recall the transfer case stopped working properly, however, the transfer case was working perfectly before the recalled. The BMW power train recall damage the transfer case

While driving home on the most dangerous highway in Colorado, my vehicle suddenly went from doing 75mph to 50mph during traffic hour, almost causing my vehicle to get into an accident, with my family in the car. So very dangerous. The engine light and the engine malfunction message came on. I was able to merge off the highway and have my car and have a mechanic take a look at it. The error code is P15df (high pressure fuel pump). I did some research on this and found that BMW had been taken to court on this safety issue. BMW had recalled 1000's of BMW's for this exact same issue. I wrote to BMW customer relations and their response basically is that my car's VIN does to qualify for this recall. I stated to them that it should be recalled because it has the exact same problem as the 1000's that were recalled. In reality they do not want to pay for it. I feel that my vehicle should be recalled to include 1000's of other X5's, before someone is killed.

My car has PCV heater check engine light code coming on and off. BMW is forced by NHTSA to do recall on BMW car fire but only cover up to production model thru December 2011. My car has June 2012 production, the PCV heater valve check engine light has been on and off from last year, I had replaced HVAC heater valve (wrong diagnose for part specific from my mechanic) but now I find out there is a recall for it, but not covering my year. Please advise me if NHTSA can make BMW extend the recall year coverage? thank you.

Experience glycol-leakage from the egr (exhaust-gas-recirculation) valve can occur. In combination with typical soot deposits and the high temperatures normally present in the egr module this might result in smoldering particles. This could lead to the melting of the intake manifold and in extremely rare cases result in a fire. BMW extended a recall to european and asian models but not the us my car has only 51000 miles. I was driving my car at 35 miles per hour suddenly the car lost power steering wheel locked so it was hard to keep control of the vehicle. I tried restarting the car but with no results. A policeman had to stay behind me all the time for over an hour until a towing truck came to tow the car. BMW diagnoste the car before with a fuel rail regulator. So I went and replaced that component still the car did not want to start!?. so I towed it to BMW after 4 days of diagnostics that they said the diagnostics itself is $1900! they came to a conclusion that the fuel high pressure pump failed and contaminated the fuel system and broke the injectors and messed up the whole fuel system. Their estimate to replace the whole is over $11000! and to just replace the failed and clean up the fuel system it will cost me over $4000. The car is only $75000 how would a major failure happen to that component. There was no misfueling, they checked the diesel and they said it is not gas and it does not have water either. I have read where other people complaining from the same issue fuel high pressure pump failure. If I were on a highway and since the car did not give any notice or message I think I would have been in an accident since the car just shut down with no warning or sign.

On August 7, 2018, I was traveling on interstate 95 in Maryland (North of baltimore) in route to New York state. During the highway drive, my BMW drastically reduced speed to 10 miles per hour and the check engine light came on and stayed on. I had to move my car to a safe place to avoid being hit by the other vehicles on the highway. I could not continue to drive my car. And, I was worried about my safety and was at risk due to the BMW car issue. I called aaa and my car was towed to passport BMW in suitland, Maryland for repair. On August 8th, passport evaluated my car and diagnosed the problem. I was informed by passport BMW that my car engine problem was due to a faulty fuel ignition system which had to be replaced. I approved this over $570 repair to my car. However, when I picked up the car, the engine light was still on. Again, I was concerned since my car was repaired by BMW yet the problem had not been fixed since the engine light was still on. I contacted the service advisor to inform him of the problem. He apologized and requested that I bring the car back in to passport BMW on the next day. The next day, I brought the car in to passport BMW, I was informed that the catalytic converter, an estimated $3388 repair, needed to be replaced. My car has been in for BMW service maintenance and recall repairs several time. My car was in for maintenance several times and was not accurately diagnosed or repaired. There is no indication that the repair diagnosed on August 8th fixed the problem that caused my car to stop running on the highway on August 7th. I paid for that repair in August and it did not fix the check engine problem and want to be reimbursed for this expense. I am concerned about the numerous repairs to my BMW despite the fact that my car has been serviced by the passport BMW service department.

I am writing this letter to seek helps on my 2012 BMW X5 35D (VIN#: [xxx]). I have experienced diesel smell in the cabin in the last couple of months and I got engine check light came on last week. We checked the code it saying the egr cooler is bad and egr valve is not operating. I want to know is there any recall or campaign regarding this part. This is an environmental emission and human health related issue. I recall I saw this part has an extended warranty 10 years/120000 miles. I have been a loyal BMW owner since 2002 and I will continue to do so. But this diesel smell issue is concerning me since it's health related, especially we have two kids in the car every day. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Diesel engine, scr passive tank/sensor needs replace. BMW dealer said its not covered in the warranty (extended warranty of 10Y/120K miles, but scr active tank/sensor is covered. What? my mileage 94K miles). Passive tank still part of the emissions systems. Cost is $3K repair. I don't understand (BMW) put the sensor built into the tank. I'm sure a lot of BMW owners will run into this issue costing lots of dollars and profit for BMW. Need to get BMW to cover this cost.

Check engine light came on and BMW service center told me the sensors in the passive diesel exhaust fluid tank failed and entire tank needs to be replaced. BMW extended the warranty on the active tank, but not passive. Think its ridiculous that only one tank is covered while the passive is not. This is a well-documented issue on BMW's diesel.

The diesel exhaust fluid passive tank in my BMW X5 has failed, which from what I've read in many forums is an unacceptably common occurrence. While taking the car into the dealership to have three other recalls addressed I asked about the tank being covered in the extended emmissions warranty on the car. They informed me that the main diesel exhaust fluid tank is covered (which they replaced because it had failed too), but the reserve or passive tank was not covered under the warranty. Now there is a countdown on the dash that if I drive over 900 miles without fixing it the car will know longer start. I have had my diesel exhaust fluid filled multiple times but the message returns immediately. To replace the defective tank is $2,500. I'm making a complaint because as I said this is a widespread issue with this part and if BMW realizes there is a defect on the main tank, why wouldn't they also replace the passive tank under extended warranty?

I'm writing to you regarding my 2012 BMW X5M. On October 8, 2017 I was driving my car and suddenly the check engine light came up and almost immediately the car lost power and a very loud banging noise start coming up from the front of the car. I was in the middle of a busy intersection when this happened and the car could barely move. I pulled over as soon as I was out of the intersection and got the car towed to the nearest BMW authorize dealer - BMW of silver spring, md (3211 automobile blvd, silver spring, md 20904). After a few conversations with the dealer I was told that I have to replace the entire engine and that there will be no effort made to determine the reason for the engine failure. The car is a well maintained vehicle and I have records for all the maintenance work done. That includes oil changes done every 5,000- 7,000 miles. I told the dealer that I suspect the issue could be a faulty fuel injector. The symptoms I shared with the BMW dealer were rough starts, rough idle and fuel smell were present especially the day we towed the car in. The dealer refused to accept any of the shared information and denied my request for the fuel injectors to be checked although they are under extended warranty. As a result, I was given no choice but pay the cost of the entire engine replacement. The dealer refused to give me the old engine back because I wanted it inspected to check whether a faulty injector was the reason for the engine failure.

The contact owns a 2012 BMW X5. While driving approximately 30 mph, the check engine warning and low power mode indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to walser BMW auto campus of wichita (11000 E 13th St N, wichita, ks 67206, phone: (316) 221-3841) where it was diagnosed that the high pressure fuel pump failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. In addition, while attempting to drive the vehicle, the check engine and low power mode indicators illuminated again. The vehicle was taken back to walser BMW where it was diagnosed that the vanos solenoid failed, there were metal shavings in the oil, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 75,140. Consumer stated BMW customer care package B001314 was completed by BMW before consumer purchased the vehicle. At approx. 36,000 miles. My fuel pump has been failing to create the correct amount of pressure in the fuel line, on and off, for several months, resulting in the vehicle suddenly operating at "reduced power" when driving. This then causes me a safety issue as I can no longer maintain proper speeds, especially when on the highway. It also causes me to have to restart the vehicle several times in a row as the vehicle often stalls out several times before finally achieving the proper pressure. My vehicle is model year 2012, which BMW states is outside of the current recall. It appears that my vehicle is having the issues outlined in the recall 16V-746. My request here is to have the recall amended to include my make model and year of vehicle.
