This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Buick dealer.
Power steering pump may need to be replaced, rack and pinion is falling apart, and hoses may be leaking. Dealer estimates $3,000 to repair this job.
Dealer told us just to keep the power steering fluid topped off.
How on a 44k mileage car does something like this fail?
I'm no mechanic - but is this safe?

Again, they fixed it for free, but you would think a supposedly quality vehicle would not break down so badly with so few miles.

At 66355 miles I am hearing loud noise when idling. Dealer says due to bad power steering pump. Pump had to be replaced. Dealer puts me in rental car for about a week. Says he will have the charge sent to him as he can get me a discount on rental amounting to little or nothing. Puts me in a Yukon! I am a petite woman who practically needed a stepladder to get into the thing, but the rental car company insists that the dealer told them to put me in an SUV because that is what I am used to. I grudgingly accepted as after all, they were picking up the cost right? Wrong! Dealer sneaks a $105.00 charge onto my invoice for rental car and calls it a discount.

Problem started suddenly and is coupled with lack of power. Fluid in reservoir is full and in good standing. Very noisy at slow speeds. May require full replacement.
