This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Buick dealer.
One day we heard a bang, then a loud rattle, followed by a whistling noise, then the engine lost probably 50% of it's power. Engine light came on. Went to Belle Tire, they say the turbo charger "wheel" flew apart, damaging and plugging up the catalytic converter. Car is still driveable, but sluggish. Lack of acceleration is annoying and frankly, can be dangerous. People pass me a lot. Repairs are $800 for the converter, and $1200 for the turbo. Dealership doesn't seem to care, the service rep said "well, sometimes the turbos last the life of the car, sometimes they don't". No recall, special warranty or investigation that I'm aware of. I have had no other problems (besides this BIGGIE) and used to love this little car. I bought a Buick because I thought reliability and longevity were as they always have been, but now I am an unhappy and extremely disappointed customer. Hate to go back to Ford. Can't afford this.

I can't believe a car with 51000 miles needs the turbo charger replaced. The part is 700.00 bucks. What a piece of junk. Car was well taken care of. I am so freakin' frustrated. This car has low mileage. So if I replace the turbo charger how long will the replaced one last. Never and I mean never will I buy a Buick again! We were gun ho on buying a Buick because we had a '98 Buick century and it was good to us. We put 400,000 miles on it. Only replaced water pump. Very disappointed in this Buick Encore.
Update from Jun 5, 2016: Along with my first complaint posted, I failed to share that I had to have the " brains" of the transmission replaced at about 30,000 miles. I don't remember what the part is called but was told it was the brains of tranny and told the car when to shift. Also had to have a cv boot or joint replaced because that was too defective. This work too was done around 30,000 miles.

So this is the second time that I had to put my 2013 Encore in the shop. Two different problems. This time I started noticing my car would accelerate very slow. In another words don't pull out in front of someone unless you have 2 football field lengths between you. Took it to the dealership in Enterprise AL and they said my turbo was bad. The service manager mentioned to me that this was not the 1st Encore that they had the same problem with. Well 3 weeks later (had problem getting turbo shipped to them) and $1250.00 dollars later. I have my car back.
