Has anyone else experienced problems with Buick's brakes engaging during towing? We have a Class A RV and use the "Brake Buddy Classic 3" braking system on the Envision. While the Envision engine was ON, we placed the car in Neutral and released E-park brake as recommended by the manual. (We also have a tow/drive toggle switch to disconnect fuse so battery doesn't run down). These were all installed by a professional shop - not us.
After we drove over 1000 miles the car wheels froze - the wheels were hot and the brake pads, rotors, and calipers were ruined. Buick parts were scarce where we were, so we rented a Uhaul trailer and towed the car home. Operator error could have occurred due to turning OFF the engine without releasing the E-park brake - but would this matter if car was in Neutral? I mean, do you have to release the E-park brakes if car is in neutral? Could the Buick's Intellibrake system have over-ridden the Brake Buddy braking???
We're putting this out there in case there are others. Was this operator error - ie, not releasing E-park brake? Buick Brake system overriding Brake Buddy system, or Brake Buddy malfunction? We will take Buick out again and carefully try to eliminate any operator error. But if anyone has experienced braking issues during towing, please post.
