LaCrosse CXL 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 84,235 miles

While driving on the interstate, i went to pass a large truck at 65 mph, after pressing on the accelerator, when my rpm reached 3000, the power dropped from the engine and the warning "reduced engine power" came on. I had to slow to 60 mph and get back behind the large truck. My rpm would not go above 3000 during the rest of my trip. The next morning, on the way to work, car drove normal, acceleration and all.

I don't understand why this isn't a recall. Obviously, from other posts I'm not the only one with this problem and, in fact, the 2009 LaCrosse is noted for the problem. Problem is in the accelerator, causing warning lights for ABS and traction control, as well as reduced engine power. Our very nice neighbor, who is an ace mechanic for a dealer's reconditioning service offered to repair. He wasn't going to charge me anything, but I gave him what I thought MIGHT be fair. Then I Googled the problem and then I was upset, to say the least. Not because I was out $40, but because GM has decided not to warn about this problem. He said he replaced an electric wire harness and the accelerator. Next vehicle won't be GM!

My reduced engine power light came on and I noticed the reduced engine power right away; vehicle became sluggish when accelerating. Also my traction control light came on and flashed alternately with the reduced engine power light.
