problem #1

Aug 132015

Regal Limited 3.8L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 51,500 miles

I was on my way to a doctor appointment two miles from home. Suddenly the ANTILOCK light came on. I said to myself, after my appointment I would stop at Belle Tire to see if they could tell me what was wrong. As I started to turn left, my steering froze up, I had to restart the car. It then let me turn left and I parked the car and went into my appointment. When I came out approximately 30 minutes later, the car started up and I was on my way to Belle Tire. I had one more intersection to make a left turn before I could get to Belle Tire. The steering froze up again! I restarted the car, and was able to complete my left turn. Belle Tire was less than 1/2 mile away. I pulled into the left turn lane by Belle Tire and the steering froze up again and the car was dead.

I tried several times to restart the car with no success. Everything was froze up, no power, couldn't shift, car was dead. I was able to unlock my door and get out of the car after tuning on my flashers. I crossed over two lanes of traffic to get to the Belle Tire building. I went inside and told them my car died in the left turn lane. I have AAA Road Service and called them to pull my car into Belle Tire. Belle Tire said the car started after AAA lowered to the ground. They diagnosed it and told me to call the GM Dealer to tow it to the dealership because the problem was the Ignition Switch which is a Safety Issue and relates to a recall. They printed out the Service Parts Safety #14123 Ignition Switch Replacement Document and gave it to me. They advised me not to drive the car cause it could happen again! So I called my son to pick me up.

When I got home, I called a dealership and explained what happened. They told me my car was not on the recall list by the vehicle number I gave them. I told them, that it should be and wanted another phone number to talk to someone else. He gave me a number and when I called it, and gave it my vehicle number, it said I was on the recall list and suggested a Dealership that was no longer in business. Then a real person came on the phone and I explained that the dealership the recording suggested is no longer in business. She asked me the vehicle number, I gave it to her and she checked and told me it WASN'T ON THE RECALL LIST. Well by this time I was getting pretty upset. She passed me on to another higher up person who told me he checked it globally and my vehicle was not on the list. I asked to talk to someone else and he more or less blew me off and said that the Highway Safety Administration decides what cars were to be recalled. I am pursuing action and am looking for numbers to reach them. I am also going to file a complaint with the State Attorney General's Office.

I then went to the nearest Dealership, Bowman Chevrolet in Clarkston. I explained what happened and they said they didn't do towing. I had to call AAA again to move my car to the dealership. They came and towed it to Bowman Chevrolet Thursday evening about 7:30 PM. The dealership closed at 7:00, but I had told the Service Department it would be there in the morning when they opened and left them a set of keys. They said they had a lot of cars lines up (43) for Friday and didn't know if they would get to my car. The car still sits at the dealership today, Sat. 8-15-2015. They were open today from 9 to 2. When I called at 11:30 AM they told me the technician started to look at it, but was called to another job. I never heard back from them! I will call again on Monday 8-17-2015,

Update from Oct 5, 2015: I called back on Monday, still haven't figured out the problem. Tuesday, they figured out the car turned off when turning left! Exactly what I told them five days ago. It turned out to be the IGNITION SWITCH. They ran up the Labor fee by not listening to me. The part was approximately $170. The labor was $300.00!!! Therefore, the total repair bill was $511.60 with some other added charges. They wonder why people hate to go to dealerships!!!! THIS CAR 2003 BUICK REGAL SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE RECALL LIST FOR IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEMS.
