CT6 Luxury 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 8,500 miles

I have complained about this problem many times. The engine light came on, and they changed the transmission oil and the harness. The problem still exists. I was told by a friend that there was a class action suit against Cadillac for this eight-speed transmission. If this is true, I would like to be include in this action!

CT6 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 92,000 miles

I just purchased the vehicle a few months ago. I own a 2015 Cadillac Escalade, a 2011 Cadillac truck, and this 2016 CT6. I have owned a total of 10 Cadillacs. The 2016 ct6 is the newest one that I have owned. The hood and the top paints both had faded and now the transmission is a piece of crap. The transmission is shaking and shuddering when you accelerate. I have taken it to 4 mechanic and the last one seems to think that it is the torch converter. I had research and this seems to be a common problem with the 8l45/8l90 transmission in 2016-2019 gm cars and trucks.

I don't understand why there hasn't been a recall. No, I don't think it has killed anyone, but it is a defect in a product.I don't have a warranty and it's going to cost me around $3000/$4000 or more dollars. I 'm a E.D. at the company that I work. The first thing that I do is address any problems or defects that we have and get them fixed. GM has CEOs and other employees getting paid millions of dollars and they will not fix this problem. I am reporting this one time, but it is happening each time I get into my vehicle.

CT6 Platinum 3.0L Tt

  • Automatic transmission
  • 20,580 miles

Recently purchased 2016 Cadillac Platinum CT6 with 3.0 TT engine and approximately 19,135 miles. Under mild acceleration, the transmission searches, "hunts" for a gear. There is a noticeable hesitation and then short but sudden burst of acceleration. There also seemed to be an odor from something that was hot or burning. The dealer had just recently replaced the gas tank. So, I don't know if the odor was related to that repair or the transmission issue. Regardless, there also was a mild vibration similar to driving over rumble strips that are often on a roadway that is approaching a stop sign.

I texted the service writer at the dealership. He indicated that model and year of Cadillac was known to have a "busy" transmission. However, he assured me it was operating as designed. I'm not so sure about that. We owned a 2016 Camaro with 6.2 liter engine that also had an 8-speed transmission. Granted, we bought it new and didn't drive it much. But that transmission operated flawlessly during the two years we owned the vehicle.

So, am trying to figure out a path forward as to how to get the issue resolved. The vehicle is a CPO auto with a manufacturer's warranty. However if GM's line is "there is nothing wrong", perhaps a third party upgraded transmission (or torque converter) would be a better move. But then there is the integration of software with the remaining OEM equipment (turbos, fuel management, etc.) that could be problematic. Then I would have GM and the third party provider pointing fingers at each other. Result would be - still no resolution of the problem.

CT6 Premium Luxury 3.0tt V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 16,000 miles

Since I have owned the car the transmission from time to time will let off a very rough shift. Usually, happens when slowing down to a stop, but speeding up before you stop. The transmission is have a very ruff downshift. Then it started a new problem of slam into gear the first thing in the morning. Car was at dealer for three weeks to replace transmission. The problem with the slam into gear in the morning is gone, but still getting ruff shifts. Was on an uphill while slowing down and then speeding up. It felt like I was rear ended.
