CTS 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 118,000 miles

My wife was stranded on the side of the interstate two days ago. She reported that the Cadillac suddenly lost power, and would only idle. It was towed to Cadillac for repairs. No engine lights were illuminated during this ordeal.

I was contacted by Cadillac, who said that it was very low on oil, and that the timing chain was stretched (and needed replaced). Furthermore, they needed to also replace most of the internals of the engine. I was left with two options. Option one was to repair the engine for $7,000. Option two was to replace the engine with a rebuilt one for $6,000. Neither option was covered by Cadillac. I wasn't too surprised, given the mileage of the car. They reported that the car was running, but would soon need these repairs.

I have also had a mystery oil consumption issue, which is listed on this site as well (to the tune of 1 quart per 500 miles with zero oil spots in the garage or any smoking). Timing chain replacement is a big issue for the 3.6L engine, as is excessive oil consumption. I know from my experiences with many Chevys, that the 3.6L GM V6 is a piece of junk.

CTS 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 55,000 miles

I am the second owner on this car I bought it with 30,000 miles and it ran great. Two weeks ago i was driving the street and heard a loud noise so i pulled over and had had a freind pick me up. I had it towed to shirey cad in chicago, they tolled me the timing belt streched. How in the hell does a timing belt streach at 55,000 miles. I called GM and made a case I got all my oiil change records printed out a dropped them off. They told me their willing to split the cost, cause they cant find any records of the previous owner. So I did some research and found it was bought at steve foley cad, they said they have one record in 05. How is it I can find this out but I was told they have no records of that car ever at a dealship. This is bullshit
