About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
A black bolt in my steering column fell out onto my floormat and a second bolt was very loose, getting ready to fall out. The steering column just needs to be adjusted - recalibrated. No parts needed, very little time. Foundation Cadillac, Denver Colorado is charging me for diagnostics for bolts. Having my steering column fall would have been a huge safety issue. I need some help getting Foundation to adjust the steering column at no cost to me. My Cadillac is Out of Warranty.

The contact owns a 2010 Cadillac Cts. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 15 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated without the accelerator pedal being depressed. In addition, when turning the steering wheel to the left there was an abnormal noise. The contact mentioned that the failure recurred twice. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was unable to be duplicated. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred.. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

On 6 June, 2013 while driving on M59 in Michigan and applying the brakes, my knee made contact with the remote fob, causing the ignition key to move from the "on" position to "accessory" mode. The engine stopped running and I had to steer and brake the vehicle without power assist to the shoulder of the road. I put the vehicle in park and restarted without incident. The same situation occurred in January 2014 while driving on I-75 to Florida. In both cases I informed my dealer (lafontaine Cadillac in highland, Michigan). The response was that they had not received any similar complaints and they could do nothing about it. I informed GM of the issue and they arranged to have the vehicle examined today, 1 April, 2014. I just received a call from the dealership informing me that the ignition switch met specifications. Whether or not it did (and to which specification) is academic. This is a safety issue! while I was able to manhandle the steering and braking, I doubt that my wife would be able to.
