In-tank fuel pump unit motor failure caused a high-current draw. Prior to fuse blowing, in-tank wiring became hot enough to melt the wire insulation. This is a serious safety condition. Had the wire come off the terminal and created a spark, the resulting explosion could have killed the driver and any passengers.

Consumer was getting into vehicle and started smelling fuel in passenger's compartment. Consumer went straight to a mechanic. Fuel has spilled onto engine, but not enough to start smoking and catch a fire. Manufacture is doing nothing about smell or problem.
