I was super dissapointed when my low mileage, well cared for Caddy, had a transmission failure.

Researching the problem, I find the problem is two o-rimgs that wear out prematurely.

The cost to fix the transmission was such, that I sold the car for salvage (because of the age). I expected another 100 to 200 thousand miles, but was sorely dissapointed. This shook my belief in the "Cadillac quality" that I expected after having had 4 Caddies before that went 200-300 thousand with no major problems.

DeVille Sedan V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 103,000 miles

I have a 1996 Cadillac Deville Sedan, I was driving it and the transmission just quit pulling. I turned it off and let it sit for a little while and it started again. I changed the transmission filter as I was told it could cause that and now my tranny doesn't pull at all, so I then had the tranny rebuilt! Put it back in and got the same results!!

While on a second honeymoon trip to Las Vegas for our 25th anniversary, the driver information center displayed this message "Service Transmission" I checked my owners manual and it says to take to dealer.

We arrived in Las Vegas, I called dealer and took it in to be checked. The dealer says the transmission needs to be replaced as they were getting "No response" from a transmission sensor, and that the cost would be $4500. I explained I was on a vacation,1500 miles from home, and $4500., was way outta my budget. I was told they may be able to replace a "speed sensor" for $2500. but it may not fix the problem. I was crushed. I asked, will it get me home? dealer says "maybe" needless to say that put a helluva damper on my vacation. Well we said this is a gambling town and well we would gamble and see what happens. We not only made it home, but the car seemed to be fine, only occasionally the message would come on. Then, a few months later another message would appear while we were driving the car) "Anti-theft system activated car may not restart) But, it never failed to restart. We took it to local dealer (whom I detest) and was told that the computer says that the transmission needs to be replaced. By now we have 150,000 miles on the vehicle and the transmission was working fine, then all of a sudden it wouldn't shift to 3rd gear, I asked the dealer if it was really a mechanical problem, since it had lasted over 70,000 miles without a problem and I was told it may be electrical, since the computer controls the shifting.

I have tried to get answers from GM but all I can get from them is a run around. they say that their vehicles are the best on the planet and yet I see that they lied.

I cannot afford to have this repaired and I feel that IF I had had the transmission replaced, back in 2004 that the central control system would have still caused my problem.

I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER CADILLAC!
