06 SRX (AWD loaded) with a 3.2 V6. At 79,209 had to take to dealer to have the timing changes replaced. I guess this is a common problem with the 2004-2009 SRX. Cadillac never wants to take ownership for making a poor engine design. You would think with all the complaints GM is receiving from this engine, that they would fix the problem, to make sure all their loyal customers will continue to buy American instead of switching to a foreign vehicle. I had the timing chains replace at a cost of $1,844.88. The dealer had the nerve to call me to inform me that the water pump ($256), seal($1270) sealant($17.46) and coolant($188.81). There was nothing wrong with the water pump, the dealer wanted to make the extra money, since they had to remove the water pump to get to the timing changing. I never had a engine light or any coolant leaks from the water pump and the heater worked perfectly. Dealers will do anything to fleece the customer. The dealer also charged me $37.80 for a new style rocker cover, that would fix the high oil use. You guessed it, the gaskets didn't work and I still have the high oil usage. I did add a attachment of the all the parts that were changed at the time. In the picture you will see 4 boxes, which were sensors because I was getting some kind of over head cam error and each one of the sensors cost $40 a piece from NAPA, I also changed the spark plugs The vehicle now has 115,582 and needs the timing chains, changed again. The vehicle now sounds like a diesel engine when I turn it on and I have no engine service light on. I have taken very good car and since 2014 have driven this car for less than 2000 miles and has always been garaged. At 115K miles on 3/31/17 had to change the starter.
I notice that a customer wrote that they took complaint to GM and that they were able to get the warranty on their 2006 SRX extended to 120K miles just like they extended the warranty on the 2007-09. If, GM knows this is a problem with the engine, why wouldn't they do the same for the 2004-06 SRX. That makes no sense and I hope they take ownership. I am planning to take my receipt to dealer and ask for the GM number so I can call and complaint because I continue to have the same problem, even after they said they fixed the problem and I want my $1844.88 returned. I am sure they didn't upgrade the timing chains from the original. I was also told that the timing chains in these vehicles stretch.
If any of you complainers can give me any helpful information on getting GM to fix this problem please. do and I do thank you.
Update from Apr 9, 2017: I would like to retract my statement on my original complaint on my 06 SRX. I fat fingered the coolant cost, which cost $18.81 not the $188.81(fat finger) that I made a mistake on. I received a respond to my original complaint from a person saying, I was dishonest because I accused the dealer of trying to make money by telling me, the customer, that the water pump was bad and needed to be changed, during the replacement of my timing chains. This individual said that I could have said NO.
Why would the dealer, want to change a water pump on a car that the heat was working perfectly, I had no service light on, I had no leak by water pump. I have changed the coolant on this SRX and you would get a message if you were low on the coolant. So that tells me that the diagnostics of the car were all working and if I would have had a problem with the coolant system. including the water pump, the system would have told me I had a problem. I did question the dealer and he insisted that it was bed. I did keep the water pump and plan on using it, if my present water pump does eventually go bad and again the vehicle had only 79K miles and they did the timing chain replacement. I am guessing this individual must me a service or tech for Cadillac. I have at least 10 family members who work for GM, and GM makes good vehicles but if they have a know problem with a vehicle, fix the problem so your good customers can come back to buy your product. I would want all Americans to buy American and I will continue to buy GM cars. I would hate to see GM customers get displease with their product and go buy a foreign vehicle. Foreign vehicles have their problems too and we all know these big car companies aren't going to make a recall on their cars if they think they can get away with it. And for that individual who called me dishonest, at the time of the repair of the timing chains, the dealer said that they were going to change the gaskets on the rocker covers to that the oil consumption would stop. Guess what, they lied again because I continue to have the same problem. I will be heading to see the dealer when I come back from my vacation and I will have all the paper work in hand from the $1900 previous timing chain job. Plus, I will take along all the parts that they took out during this job and including the perfectly good WATER PUMP they removed that didn't need to be replaced. And my new proof will be a copy of the complaint of the one person who said they received the same extended warranty (120K miles) as the folks that bought the 2007-09 models. Will keep you all posted. Thank You
