2010 SRX P0017 check engine light lit. Can't drive car due to fail of NYS inspection. Dealer immediately said timing chains need replacement for $3500. Called Cadillac customer service, and was told they never heard of this problem and could not assist with any coverage, partial or otherwise. It seems obvious that this is a known issue. I've owned a multitude of Cadillac cars of the past - they didn't care less.

BOTH front headlamp assemblies needed to be replaced due to severe moisture within. Cost was $1550 EACH. Both heated mirrors failed $800, timing chains failed $3500, navigation system failed $1600, windshield washer hoses disintegrated $200, both front bearing bad $900, sunroof issue, tailgate issue $550, etc. etc. Why would ANYONE purchase a Cadillac anymore?

Was driving going 50mph when all of a sudden the 'reduced engine power' signal came on and I started losing power. The car would not go above 18 mph and I almost got rear ended. I took my car straight to the mechanic and they put it on the scanner. They told me it was the throttle body issue and it had to be replaced, so I had that replaced which cost 620.00.

After I got that fixed, one day later was driving and the check engine light came on again. I went back to the mechanic, and they put it on the scanner again and told me that it was the timing chain and it would have to be replaced. They told me to check the Cadillac dealer about any recall's on this since it seems to be an ongoing issue with the 2010 Cadillac SRXs. I had called the Cadillac dealer and I asked for a list of all the recall's on the 2010 Cadillac SRX's and they would not give me any information on my car. As I was looking on the internet I was seeing all the same complaints about the same issues I am having with my Cadillac and no recalls, the timing chain to replace is about 3,500 to fix and the car is only worth right now 4500.00 and I am not even done paying for it, you would think Cadillac would address this issue since there are so many complaints on this same issue.

And the frustrating thing is I only have 102,302 miles on it, and should not have this kind of trouble,

I have had my 2010 Cadillac SRX for two years and its been in the shop several times! Started with water leakage from drainage tubes inside the car, thankfully there was a recall for that. Then the car was going into slow engine mode so another $500.00 fixing that problem, some stabilizer issue.

A couple months later the power steering line went on my way home from work, few hundred dollars. Back again a month later a bearing (SP?) few hundred dollars. Couple months went by and the back hatch motor going out and grease leaking down the side, not to mention the door goes up and will come down on you as your loading items in the car. Car was going back into the shop for another bearing out and before that problem was fixed the car stalled out going down the expressway going first into slow engine mode and then complete engine loss!

The car had to be towed to a repair center where it sets with timing chain issues and I have been told I would be better off finding a replacement engine to put in it and the mechanic is still searching and can not find one so here I set with a car I am still paying on that is of no use to me and looking at 3500 to 4000 to fix!

Never again will I buy a Cadillac, this has to be the worst mistake I have ever made on vehicle choice and its really to bad because I love the luxury of the car but mechanically they are a high dollar piece of junk that will some day fill the scrap yards!

Very disappointed to say the least. If you are even considering buying the SRX especially this year and model ~ DON'T ~ NIGHTMARE!

Cadillac acknowledged issues with the SRX and other 3.0L engine models via TSB's and other announcements. Not to mention, if you do a quick search on the internet, you'll find forums, articles and videos of lots of owners that have had this part fail between 50,000-110,000 miles. It's an absolute disgrace that GM has not offered an extended warranty or recall on this part. The failure rate is astronomical and the repair is very expensive.

For the previous SRX (prior to 2010), GM provided an extended warranty. Yet, we're offered nothing and left to pay a bill above $2,500 for a manufacturer defect. It's a joke and I'll NEVER buy from GM again. Stay away.

Five months after paying off our 2010 SRX, the TIMING CHAIN failed. First indication was illuminated engine light 2 weeks prior, diagnosed as nothing major...oil change and lube. WRONG!! Engine light came on again...this time a serious issue...TIMING CHAIN that cost us $1800 to fix. This is practically unheard of for a well maintained vehicle with 89,000 miles but ALL TOO COMMON in the SRX. We learned this and other "interesting" facts after doing our research. The most important fact is that Cadillac/GM introduced a "TIMING CHAIN SPECIAL POLICY" for the first generation SRX (model years 2004-2009). This "special policy" extends warranty to 120,000 miles or 10 years, whichever comes first. This policy would apply to our SRX IF it were model year 2009. Secondly, we were one of the first, if not the first to purchase a second generation SRX in our city. We contend that ours is a 2nd generation body with a 1st generation engine and timing chain. We expect to hear from GM Cadillac in the next few days with some type of resolution. NOT HOLDING MY BREATH!!
