This is ridiculous - why does someone have to go to the brink of an accident or bodily injury before a recall can be issued for this defect? No one really cares until it's someone you know that's injured or worse.

Car is not drive able at night. Had the headlight bulbs replaced - however, it did not fix the problem. Took the car to the dealer and they stated that they need to replace the lamps, but they are not covered! This is really not good. My car is passed the bumper to bumper warranty and the extended warranty does not cover. I have to pay out of pocket to get the issue fixed so I can drive my vehicle.

I put UltraStar bulbs in place of the factory. Then you can now ALMOST make out shapes at night. It seems like it's a wiring problem. We only drive this car at night IF we have to. So much for Cadillac quality!!!! The only reason to buy this car is to NOT do your research first. My wife learned this lesson the hard way. I have steered nearly 2 dozen people away form this vehicle and will continue to do the same until a complete fix if offered.
Update from Feb 10, 2020: The UltraStar bulbs worked OK for about 2 weeks. If you want a daytime only car buy this one. If you need to drive at night, PLEASE buy something else!!!!
FYI Cadillac doesn't care.

Headlight visibility is awful. Can’t drive at night without using high beams which isn’t always feasible. I refrain from driving at night, which is ridiculous, seeing as I’m spending a small fortune to have this “luxury “ vehicle. Want to know if anyone has gotten an answer to this problem without spending thousands of dollars. I see it’s a common complaint but don’t see a solution. Help!!!!!!
- pjspoiled01pp, Niagara Falls, US
Lights have to be driven with high beams all the time!!! I CANNOT see anything with low beam headlights!!!
I took it to the shop to have expensive low beam bulbs put in and it did NOTHING to fix the issue... now the shop says that I should replace the headlight assembly. GM should stand behind their products and fix the issue!!!!! Recall this Cadillac, it is NOT safe to drive!!!!!

I am 59 years old. I have a hard time driving at night. The problem with the headlights does not help. The only way I can see is with my high beams on. When I leave for work in the morning, it is still dark. From what I understand, there is no permanent fix to this problem. This is ridiculous that Cadillac won’t step up and take responsibility.
- dw1024df, Springville, US
I like the car but am not going to buy another one because of the lights in it. I cannot see at night, so I have to drive with brights on all of the time and its not worth it. I'm thinking about trading this car off because of this problem.

Super dim low beams. If it rains or fogs, I have had to pull over, it’s so bad.
- phasma2128, Kalamazoo, US
Head lamps are bad and you can’t see. Driving a Cadillac has had it problems. They only want to pay for the parts cost when they have known about this problem for a long time. They should be fixing this fully at their expense before people get killed. Cadillac needs to step up.

My headlights are so dim. We have replaced them with many different bulbs. Then today I get a letter from GM - it only says that we will pay you back any money up to $1600, but you have to pay it out first. In order to get this, you have to sign a release that you will never complain about this again.
What a bunch of bull. I want to know how to be part of the class action suit.
Update from Nov 10, 2021: We have tried LED but still bad I think it is just the design. I love my car still going stronge with 160000 miles.

Due to Covid-19, I was not driving at night. The other day (today is September 2, 2020), I needed to go out early evening and realized my headlights were not as bright as they should be. I pulled over on a major highway and got out of my car to check the lights (not a smart move now that I think about it). The lights were extremely dim. The next day I called to get the car serviced. I was shocked to find out that my extended warranty which I paid $3200 did not cover the repairs.
Jim at Cadillac said they would not cover the repairs either. Jim couldn't even provide me a phone number for headquarters just a PO Box # to write a letter. I called the dealer where I bought the car and no satisfaction there either. As I wait to hear back from the dealer, I am told the repairs would cost me at a minimum $1600+. I live in NJ so I called the NJ Department of Law & Public Safety Lemon Law Division. RECALL is needed here!!

This Cadillac 2014 SRX was purchased at Gateway Buick in Dallas, TX and should have never been on the car lot for sale!!! Did not realize the low lights were this bad until driving it at dark days later, which is fairly rare. Have been fussing to Gateway off and on ever since we purchased it in April of 2017. Gateway even checked the headlights out for us and said "no problem, they are working fine". The headlights are so dim when driving through our neighborhood after dark, actually anywhere there is not streetlights fairly often, we have to use the brights on and afraid someone will follow us and shoot us or cuss us out for having them on to even see, its that bad. Our children even hate for us to drive this car at night, as we try not to too much at all since we have an old reliable 2005 Cadillac.
We like the car otherwise, had Cadillacs before but this is the first and terribly disappointing experience we have ever had and definitely ashamed of Cadillac and dealers not standing behind their supposedly "superior" product. The last estimate Cadillac dealership gave us earlier this year (2020) was $2,000.00 to replace the headlights, we did go on and order some more headlamps, which have not even come in as yet (late Sept. 2020). We received an undated letter earlier this year also from Cadillac that we had 90 days (I think) to get headlights replaced and they would reimburse us only $1600.00. Mind you making us pay upfront more than what they will reimburse. And I have also heard that people who have had them replaced, the new ones are just like the original bad ones!!! What happened to quality control here?? I am highly disgusted with Cadillac, I always thought of them a little more superior than some of the other cars, but this is sure not the makings of repeat business from US.
Thank you CARCOMPLAINTS.COM for letting us "air".

You shouldn't attempt to drive after the sun goes down because standard headlights don't work without high beams on all the time.
- Mark M., Bradenton, US
I started noticing the dimness of the low beams over a year ago and basically thought I was just getting older and that meant I could not see as well at night as before. The lights have become increasingly worse and now I am reluctant to drive at night out where I live (with no street lights) because they are so dim.
I contacted Cadillac and all they told me was to go to a dealer and have it analyzed. I said that costs over $100 and since I found out that the low beams lights problem is a US wide issue, shouldn't Cadillac want to help the consumer? I was told that I just need to take to a dealer.
- Michael B., Marshfield, MA, US
Replaced bulbs with LED bulbs, made problems a little better, but not much. Have to replace whole assembly. Unless assembly is replaced it is impossible to drive with low beams at night.

IF YOU HAVE A RECALL-THEN FIX THE HEADLIGHT (not just a portion of it)
I want Cadillac to replace the recalled lights with no cost to the owner. The recall only covers $800 per light and the dealership wants $1404.32 for each light. The amount of leaked water and discolor in the light fixture makes the car look horrible, it's a safety issue, and even worse they could fail while driving... and I would think Cadillac would provide for this recall. . I sure hope CARCOMPLAINTS.COM can help!!!
I have a 2005 CTS with the same problem and you can barely see at night even after many bulb replacements; that should also be a recall with no cost to the owner. It's a faulty product in both cases! Cadillac can do better...
- Bechinger M., Murfreesboro, US
Can't even drive the car at night. Not even in the city. It's like driving with no lights on at all. It's awful, not to mention dangerous.
- Roland S., Robstown, TX, US
I BOUGHT MY SRX USED WITH ONLY 24,000 MILES ON IT. EVERYTHING WAS GREAT WITH IT UNTIL ABOUT A YEAR OR YEAR AND HALF LATER ,WHEN THE LIGHTS BECAME SO DISCOLORED I COULD NOT SEE THE ROAD TO DRIVE AT NIGHT. IT DIDN'T MATTER IF THEY WERE DIM OR BRIGHT IT WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AT NIGHT. IF I WENT AT NIGHT I USED MY HUSBANDS TRUCK! WE THOUGHT THE LENSES NEEDED CLEANING AND WE TRIED THAT AND IT DIDN'T HELP. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND THEY TRIED THE BETTER EXPENSIVE BULBS - DIDN'T HELP! IN ORDER FOR ME TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR AT NIGHT WE HAD TO BUY NEW HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES. 1600$ LATER AND ITS FINALLY BRIGHT AND I FEEL SAFE DRIVING AGAIN AT NIGHT. I HAVE SEEN SO MANY MORE PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM FROM ALL OVER THE US AND BELIEVE IT WAS/IS A DEFECT FROM THE MANUFACTURE AND SHOULD BE FIXED OR REIMBURSED IF THE OWNER FIXED IT OUT OF POCKET!
Update from Sep 28, 2019: I DID TAKE MY SRX TO THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT IT FROM AT LEAST TWO TIMES TO GET THEM TO SEE WHAT THEY COULD DO ABOUT THE LIGHTS BEING DIM AND EVERY TIME THEY WOULD SAY THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THEM. MAKES ME NOT TRUST THEM AND I WILL NOT GO BACK TO THEM.

Lights have to be driven with high beams all the time..recall this Cadillac you know better..and GM..HOW many have to die
- hgjmah, Jewett, US
There was a recall and I need my headlights fixed. It is hard to see at night unless I put the high beams on. I go to work at 4 in the morning and I need my lights.
