A few days later, the contact received a letter stating that there was insignificant information that proved there was really a defect. The letter further stated that he needed an expert to inspect and take pictures of the vehicle, in addition to any work orders. The notice pertained to the fuel rail that could possibly result in degradation and/or possible fire. The recall repair was performed for free. After the repairs were made, a strong odor of gasoline was present in the passenger compartment to the point where occupants were experiencing headaches. The contact later found gasoline leaking in heavy quantities 12 inches from the fuel rail. General Motors stated that the contact would be liable for the repairs because that particular component of the gasoline line would not be covered under the recall.
