The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Astro. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer in 2005 for NHTSA recall # 05V099000 (exterior lighting:brake lights:switch). The vehicle had approximately 60,000 miles at the time of inspection. The dealer did not replace the switch and the brake lights on the vehicle stopped operating. The manufacturer will not replace the switch because the vehicle was previously inspected. The engine size was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 102,000.

Consumer request for reimbursement for repairs performed on 2001 Chevrolet Astro van have been denied. Recall campaign# 05V099000. The consumers brake lights, turn signals and hazards went out. The consumer was told that the part replaced was not covered under recall.

05V099000/brake light. The owner received notification from the manufacturer regarding this recall. The owner later contacted the dealer and was told by the dealership that they had no knowledge of this recall and refused to assist the owner any further. Owner later contacted the manufacturer and was given all kinds of excuses as to why the dealership told him they knew nothing of this recall. Provide further details. The repairs have been made on the vehicle by another dealership who was aware of the recall.

Vehicle's brake lights went out on 2001 Chevrolet Astro van. The brake light switch failed. The faulty part was replaced and given tot he consumer. The consumer believes the switch was back when it was placed in the vehicle. The consumer works at a facility that produces switches for automobiles. He indicated that his faulty switch had 10 certification dots on it which indicated that the switch had been rejected form shipping and was reinspected at least 10 times.

The vehicle would not pass inspection due to brake light failure. The consumer had to replace a defective switch in the steering column to correct the problem. The consumer found that GM had recalls on 2000-2001 Blazer, GMC jimmy and Oldsmobile Bravada for the same problem with the switch. The consumer bought the vehicle used - not aware when original problem already existed- noticed when following vehicle to van conversion shop to raise the roof and install wheelchair lift and tie-downs. Van is solely used to Transport handicapped daughter.
