On interstate 75 S heading to Flint @ 70mph there was a traffic back had to stop suddenly pushed on the brakes then a pop brakes went to floor, pumped brakes got a little just barely stopped as I turned to shoulder.

Avalanche

On my way home returning from running errands with my dog in the vehicle, a brake line failed. I was able to drive real slowly and got lucky to get home. (2 miles after they failed) Called a mechanic for repairs and I drove another 3 miles to the repair shop very carefully. Couldn't wait for a tow due to limited time on my part. All the brake lines were replaced due to their rusted conditions.

Ever since I bought this truck used I have had a lot of problems with it. Window motors, alternator, rust over all the wheel wells.(Seems most of the same truck in my area has the same issues with rust) Don't get me wrong, the truck rides great but it seems something goes wrong on a regular basis. My next truck will not be a Chevy.

I bought the truck used with 20k miles on it and put about 600 high way miles a week. I've always kept my truck washed and clean.I discovered the problem when a new Corvette pulled out in front while I was doing 50 mph. I would have had plenty of distance to stop normally but couldn't get it to stop until about 40 yards past were the accident would have happend if he didn't get out of the way. I would have killed him, ran head on to opposing traffic, or hit a telephone pole if he didn't move in time. After further examination the break line running from the abs to the back blew causing the pedal to drop to the floor with little break pressure. I do all of my own work and have noticed they have been rusted since day 1, splash shields to all of the brakes have rotted away, the back were gone by 70k, and have had to replace the abs module twice, it's bad again. A close friend of mine, who works as a master mechanic for a Chevy dealership, said this is a very common problem. The only major rust on my truck is on the entire break system and shields, with very minimal on the frame which doesn't make much sense to me. With all of the complaints of this issue and the statement from the Chevy mechanic, corporate greed is more important the the lives of the people affected by their product. I have always been a life long GM buyer, until I worked in the automotive manufacturing as a quality inspector. Because of my experiences I bought my wife a Toyota. They have had quality issues, but also recalled and fixed their defective product. I hope they can sleep well at night, with blood on their hands, from loss of life due to break line failure they are aware of.

Brake line exploded, resulting in all brake fluid lost. Thank God I bought the Avalanche USED. Trans EXPLODED $3,200, Differential bearing worn out $3,100, Brake line EXPLODED because not made of stainless steel!!! so 4 new brake lines $2,000. I never buy an American engineered car NEW. They are designed with so many engineering defects that they are not worth the money new. You have to replace so many important parts anyway that these cars are only worth buying USED. You have to pay to install quality parts. Buying American? Buy USED!!
