This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Chevrolet dealer.
I suddenly started hearing a very load clicking sound when tuning the steering wheel. From the complaints I've read so far this seems to be a typical problem. Why the hell doesn't Chevy step up and do something about it?

Chevy needs to recall and fix this continuing problem.

The rattleling in the steering collumn is very annoying and at times I'm afraid that something is going to fall apart from this noise.Even when you just turn the steering wheel you can hear this noise.I just had it checked at my local repair station ,and the manager there told me that this should be a dealer recall.I urge everyone with this problem to complain to General Motors and try to get this put on as a recall.

I am having the same problem as mentioned here. I can't believe there isn't a recall if it is a real problem.

The problem is a rattling noise in the steering column, like something's coming loose. The actual steering is fine, but the noise seems to be getting worse. Two people have said that greasing a fitting in the column cures the problem, but I can's locate any fitting. Has anyone fixed this problem?

During my std. warranty Chevy fixed this problem twice. The noise sounds similar to ball joints going out. Every time you hit a bump the steering sounds like something is loose. They assured me by putting a little grease in the steering link everything would be OK. They told me that they have done this procedure on many Avalanches. Now that the std. warranty is out they want $80 to fix it, there is no grease port. The fix last about 10,000 miles. Seems to me if other Avalanches are having this problem there would be a recall to fix the problem and not a patch.......... Anyone else having this problem?

Want to share with Avalanche AND Suburban owners. Actually found the same complaint on the 2002 Suburban page. People dont realize that Avalanche is built on a Suburban chasis. You don't know what the heck is happening when you are making a turn and only when turning. All of a sudden, clunk, clunk, clunk and you feel it in the steering wheel. My dealership was awesome, no BS about lubing, they told me outright it was a driveshaft problem and replaced the entire front driveshaft. But now its back and I dont have a warranty. My gripe.....is GM has known this is a problem why is it only covered under a warranty. This should be a recall. Someone told me that once a reparation takes place due to a design issue, it can be repaired time and time again.....Is this true?
