Avalanche 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 123,000 miles

suddenly had the smell of raw gas around truck, looked under truck and saw fuel dripping off of fuel tank about center of the tank, took truck to mechanic, mechanic said all three elbows going into fuel pump were rusted off almost completely, have to replacefuel pump assembly, mechanic said truck could have caught fire very easily.the plastic tank is low where the fuel pump sits so it collects all kinds of dirt, gravel, and holds moisture that will rot the lines

Avalanche Z71 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 126,000 miles

There are two fuel lines that run below the driver's door that cross each other and are touching. They are made of some sort of rubber hose and have compression fitting on each end. They are each about a foot long. Because they are touching, they wore through each other and are leaking fuel within inches of the exhaust. This is definitely a fire hazard. I cut the old pieces off and put some tubing on and clamped it on to fix it, but I fear it is only a temporary solution. So far, I have been unable to locate a replacement part.
