Avalanche LT 5.3L V8

So the cruise control stopped working on Avalance. The light on the steering wheel is on when I press the cruise control to on, but I cannot set the speed nor engage it to work. I tried many combinations and sometimes it came on, but in general it just does not react at all and no light comes up on dashboard. Pretty weird.
