My daughter had this car for 2 years (purchased new) before I started driving it. She told me a couple of times that the shifter got stuck in park. I didn't believe her until it happened to me. It's happened twice in the 3 years I've been driving it. I usually just pull really hard on the shifter and force the shifter into reverse but it takes some strength to do it sometimes.

after just having my car in for repairs for over two weeks i pick it up and as i try to start it the shifter locks in park the tech comes out and trys it after several attempts it goes into drive they tell me it is now fine and to take it so i drive back to work and at lunch time i go out to start my car and it will not shift out of park i call the service dept and they tell me to bring it over and i told them i was not able to do that as i was at work so they sent a mechanic to pick it up and the first think he does is try to shift into park and guest what it wont shift so he calls the dealer and states yeh she was right it wont shift so they take it back for repairs then call me after 5 pm and state we have been driving it around and there seems to be no problem using up my gas so go pick it up after 7 pm and take it home and low and behold i park in my driveway and restart and it wont shift out of park lovely i will never buy another one

okay i bought my car 9/28/04 new never had any problems low mileage 31 thousand miles currently in 4 years ran great then the shifter started to stick in park and i had to unlock with my key in the console to shift to neutral to start the engine and my day running lights would go out. then two days after this started it wouldn't start at all call the dealer out of business called corporate office had it towed to the nearest dealer and i had to pay for the tow they set up when i could have used my own insurance that has roadside assistants and tow for free repairs were done new drive shaft and shifter and then they tell me it is not considered as a transmission part so it will not be covered under my warranty and they had to change other parts due to this problem and they had my car for over two weeks before ordering parts and doing any repairs i swear i will never buy another one

My car would get stuck in park. It would require me to manually YANK the gear selector out of park and make an awful grinding noise as I did. I had it at a repair shop, but of course it didn't do it while it was there. I took it home and my dad and brother (mechanic) determined the safety feature designed to keep the car in park unless your foot is on the brake was malfunctioning. there was power to the unit, but it just wouldn't get out of the way. they tied it out of the way with a zip tie or something and put the cover back on. it was really annoying, but it was a quick fix for us to do. i'm sure there is a more politically correct fix and some legitimate problem, but it did what it needed to do. now I'm just paranoid that I'll accidentally bump it and throw it into reverse at high-way speed. this car has been a pain-in-the-ass the last few years, and relatively costly (windshield, timing belt, valve stems) so i would highly recommend you steer clear of it if you are looking for a new vehicle.
