key stuck in ignition key stuck in ignition

The vehicle has an electrical failure that causes the shift interlock to lock in PARK, the ignition key to become trapped, and the brake lights and fuses to fail. The STOP/DRL fuse blows repeatedly. When the fuse blows, the car cannot be shifted out of Park and the key cannot be removed from the ignition. The vehicle also experiences battery drain and intermittent no-start conditions.

AAA tested the battery and charging system and confirmed both are good, indicating a parasitic electrical draw. A tow operator showed that the shift-lock manual override is already worn from prior use, indicating this defect existed before I drove the vehicle.

These symptoms match GM TSB 08-07-129-001B and GM Recall 14V261000 for DRL module overheating and electrical failure affecting lighting and shift interlock. The dealer stated the VIN is not currently covered under the recall, but the vehicle is experiencing the exact recalled failure mode and remains unsafe to operate.

key stuck in ignition

On 2/10/16 i had my car parked at home, i put the key in to start. I could not move the shift. So i turned the car off and the key would not release. I called tow truck, but his tow was to large to get up the driveway. He showed me how to override the gears to get the car to the dealer. This is a 2007 Aveo with only 57000 miles. I took the car to the dealer. They had absolutely no idea of how to get the key out. They gave me rental car and kept the car. I called later that day from work and was told an attendant pulled out the key it just started working on its own. go figure!. so needless to say they did nothing. I had no other problems with the car until today 3/3/16. The car was parked in the garage at work. I noticed that the clock had changed. My worst fear i knew immediately the problem was back. I missed my cousins birthday celebration over this. so I am back to the dealership tomorrow. I was planning to purchase a new car in the fall. But looks like it will be spring. I have had enough. This car has been at the dealership since 2/10/16 this will be the 4th time in less than a month. I just want to know whats wrong since i may have to tell them.

Update from Mar 14, 2016: ok, they found what the problem was, my under the hood fuse box a connector had melted and it was the cause of my front, light, horn dashboard panel and clock not working. Needless to say this cost me 639,76. I am not psychic but i see a new car in my future this spring.
