problem #30

Feb 182007

Blazer 4WD 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles
Two occurrences: Car was started when warm, and quickly throttled up to high rpms. Mechanic disconnected electrical connections, and replaced alternator. Six months later, car started normally when warm, and throttled to high rpms after traveling 30 feet, headed toward pedestrians. Applying both brakes stopped the car, but motor continued to throttle, until ignition turned off. Car started normally a minute later, and I parked after driving uneventfully two blocks with hand on ignition key. I'm afraid to drive it again, until diagnosed.

The speed control module turned on by itself, and the throttle opened wide. Pressing down on the brake did not release the speed control. I was forced to throw the car into neutral (which red-lined the motor at about 4,500 RPM) and shut it off. Only on the third restart of the motor did the module release. I was traveling at about 50 mph, and began to accelerate to go up a small hill. The cruise control was not on when this problem occured. The other problem concerns the egr valve. In late 1999, I took the car to a local Chevrolet dealer because it was running rough. They analyzed it as a stuck egr valve, and cleaned it. Two months later, I get a letter from Chevrolet (not a recall notice) stating that my car may have an egr problem. I had to take the car back a few months later, and asked for a new valve to be installed. They refused, as they said they could not be reimbursed by GM anymore. Since that time, the same problem has manifested itself 4 times, and each time, the dealer maintains it isn't the egr valve. I believe that this is pure deception on the part of the dealer, and the ntsa should force GM to replace the egr valves asap. The car wants to die in traffic when this problem appears, which is sporadic and unpredicatable.

Had problems with engine stalls and occasional surging took car to Firestone (auto mechanics) lafter talking with people who had similar problems thought maybe it was bad gas, changed to premium gas and used gas additive. Problem still persisted went to Firestone had tune up, injectors cleaned. Problem came back the next day after I picked it up.went back had engine diagnostic check.they did not find anything couple days later problem cropped up again decided to make a appointment with dealer with reservation because I've taken it there for varios different problems, but before I made appointment had accident. Going down a city street with a slight hill approx thirty degree tilt engine stalled, when this happened brakes had very little or no response, steering became stiff. Only thing that seemed to work correctly was lights. Ran through stop sign as I was trying to push on brakes and turn, finally ending up hitting a telephone pole at about 5 to 7 mph. Pole did not have much damage, airbag didn't deploy but had $8000 in front-end damage.told repair shop of cause of problem (engine stall)they found no problem. The morning after I picked up noticed stalling again. Took back to shop, they found egr valve bad and replaced (4/11/01)recieved recall notice 8/01 on egr valve called Chevy for compensation for insurance deductible and for money spent in trying to locat problem.told me no because I didn't take to a dealer.took it there many times for other problems;fuel tank, windshield wippers window not working, back lock not working. Engine light now back on notice while idling car will occasionally surge then idle down rocking from side to side.what can I do to have Chevy live up to "Chevy tough" tired of run around just want my money back for serevices paid for and have my car fixed to where I feel safe I feel very fortunate that this didn't happen coming off a highway.what avenues must I pursue to eliminate this problem and get back monies spent including my insur ded

Consumer was traveling 60-70mph all of a sudden vehicle started speeding up to 85mph. Cruise control had engaged on its own, almost to 100 mph. Putting vehicle in neutral, and braking was only way to stop it. Taking foot off brake vehicle would still keep speeding up. Engine was runniing wide open. This was 2nd time it happened, 02-20-2001. Vehicle is currently in shopfor repairs. Manufacturer felt it was not their defect. Consumer will have to pay for it.

After having recall's C 98043, C 99046, and 95020 cross 95C31 completed, returning home from the dealer 1/2 mile away, stopped at a traffic light, our Blazer lurched forward and smashed into the rear of the vehicle in front of my wife who was driving. The vehicle had to be towed because of damaged grill, radiator, hood and fenders. Is there a way this incident could have been caused by any of these recall's? also after the recalls were fixed the dealer had to fix a stuck egr valve, because the truck ran really bad after the recalls were fixed. The dealer said he had to remove many components to fix/clean the egr valve billing us $202.53.

Unintended acceleration: Vehicle suddenly, and without warning, began to accelerate at maximum engine RPM when shifted from drive (not od) to reverse. Continued, even though foot pressure on brake was extreme, when shifted from drive to '1'. did not stop until transmission was jammed into park. Foot on brake entire time. Thank god vehicle was on snow at the time: Rear wheels just spun, rather than propel vehicle back or forward. Scared the @#%& out of me. Please investigate. Thank-you. At 2 1/2 years old, my car developed an engine surge problem at start up. This eventually affects braking since the engine will surge when cold and if I'm trying to stop (I.e., the stop sign at the end of my block where kids are waiting for the school bus) and the extra power of the engine surge causes the car to lunge forward and I must apply extra pressure to the brake pedal to stop the car. I have had the car to the dealership over 10 ten times. They initially told me they couldn't find the problem although they could witness the symptoms. Recently I received a letter describing the exact symptoms and identifying the problem where the linear exhaust gas recirculation valve sticks. The letter said this was not a recall but if I experienced the problem to make an appointment. When I took it in and they checked against the VIN # they said I didn't qualify even though my problems for the past 1 1/2 years match exactly. When I contacted GM directly, they changed the story and said my car was eligible.
