On several occasions, the Blazer suffers from sudden acceleration as I depressed the brake pedal. It has happened at least 6 times in the last year. I have also noticed the sudden acceleration when I come to a full stop at a stoplight.

Vehicle engine caught on fire while driving. The consumer stopped at middle ridge service plaza and noticed smoke coming from the engine. The fire was extinguished with a fire extinguisher. Damage to the vehicle consisted of hoses, wires and insulation under hood. Consumer had no recent engine problems.

Replaced head gaskets at 48K and again at 80K. Either dexcool eats the gaskets, or the gaskets go bad and let air into the cooling system which causes the dexcool to go bad. I read a lot of complaints about dexcool, head gaskets, and 1996 Blazer. There must be a connection.

On my way home from work on Sept. 21, 2001, I had to sit on I-435-E- freeway for an hour because of a car accident. I was moving no more than 5 to 10 miles an hour. When I got to I-71-N and I took I-71 to the linwood exit going 55 to 60 miles an hour and then 45 to 50 miles an hour and then 55 to 60 and then 45 to 50. I exited linwood to the East, over to Indiana (linwood is the 32nd hundrend blook). I went South on Indiana to 3318 Indiana. I parked my car and went in the house. I was in the house about 2 to 3 minutes before my neighbors came to my door and said my car was on fire. They were using their water holes to put out the fire. My better-half (trinidad medellin) came out side and open the hood of the Blazer. By the time the fire department came, the fire was out. Superior Chevrolet had informed trinidad medellin that severe oil leak was present from oil filter adapter housing and both oil cooler lines and this leak constitutes a safety and reliability issue. Trinidad did not see any leaks. If this data was known to the NHTSA under recalls, why weren't the customers informed, per ODI id: 978897?

Medford engine gasket blewout, and coolant ran from undernea vehicle.also, there was a noise coming from front of the vehicle due to bearings being defective. Dealership was aware of problems.

No major safety problems. However, signficant mechanical problems with very moderate mileage. Mechanical problems include steering linkage, water pump, starter, head gasket.

Consumer tried to stop at an intersection and idler pulley/serpentine belts were replaced. Then, steering locked up, and brakes failed, consumer stated that recall 98V193000 concerning ABS brakes was never done.

Of stop and go cars, & people walking in front of my Blazer. I was extremely lucky that no one was hurt because of this failure, with the exception of my nerves.I don't feel that the system should have failed, on such a young vehicle. Abnormal oil consumption--recall, but dealer didn't have the parts. Air conditioner--compressor suction hose assembly leaking. Emergency brake cable rerouted--improperly installed, caused squeaking noise. Dash panel tightened--leaking cold air into driver's lap. Rear bumper strip had to be reinstalled. Air bag didn't deploy in accident.

I have been told by the dealership that I purchased my vehicle new from that my entire engine needs to be replaced because of head gasket problems, overheating and rust in my radiator. The SUV is only 3 years old and I have done the best to maintain this vehicle properly. GM/Chevrolet motors said that the warranty on the vehicle was only for 3 yrs/36,000miles. I cannot see paying for a new engine for a 3 year old vehicle when it clearly seems to be defective or a bad design from the beginning if the engine is shot. It has 76,000 miles on it and again only 3 years old. I would like this matter to be investigated and hope to have GM/Chevrolet cover this problem that is not my fault whatsoever. Is this issue a reality of "Chevy SUVS last only 3 years then the engine goes bad?"
