The security light came on while driving two days ago. I read the manual and since the light was solid, there appeared to be no urgency in getting it to a mechanic. The manual simply says the vehicle will not be protected by Passlock during this time. So I thought, big deal, the chances of someone stealing my old blazer are slim, so I kept on driving. The next day however the car would not start stranding us in over 100 degree temperatures during a heat wave. After several phone calls to local dealerships, their only suggestion was to completely change out the ignition switch citing electrical shorting in the wiring (at a cost of around $500). The dealerships say there is no way to disable the Passlock system. I am going to try and replace the fuse, other than that I am not sure how we are going to fix this problem. We have a small child so sitting in a hot or cold car for 10 minutes everytime we need to go somewhere is absolutely NOT acceptable. Chevrolet should come up with a more affordable way to correct the problem or disable this wonderful standard feature we paid for when we bought the vehicle!

I called Chevy Motor Company and told them they are responsible for Resetting/fixing/bypassing this stupid feature. I told them that they put this crappy feature in vehicles, didn't give the consumers a choice whether they wanted it or not.
I am on the phone with GM and they claim they are documenting this problem. I am telling them they sold go to each consumer that has a stupid Passlock and reset the thing.
I told them I feel Chevrolet set this Passlock thing up as a way to get consumers back to the dealership to keep milking them for money every time it needs a reset. I voiced that it looks like a scam and I am following thru with BBB complaints next.
I am on the phone with the consumer relations department. They are opening a new claim for Passlock errors. Call them At 1-800-222-1020 and ask to speak with the manager. Keep bugging these people.
If enough people bitch about this they can make a formal recall.
