The parts in this SUV were very cheaply made and should be recalled.

This is the second seat reclining handle that broke on the driver side and the passenger side has broken once. I used a pair of pliers to adjust the seat back until I finally broke down and bought the new ones. I cannot believe that GM continued to make those cheap plastic teeth to operate on the metal cogs. I understand they have now changed and made the teeth of a different material.

Passenger side broke off at about 24,000. Under warranty and replaced. Passenger side failed again at 55,000, AND drivers side broke at 60,000. Since I use it as work vehicle, I adjusted the seat where I wanted it with a pair of pliers, and let it be--

Seat handles broke twice... first time was at 30,000 miles, second time was at 75,000. I bought an extended warranty for $6,000 extra when I bought this thing used. At the expiration of the warranty, I had about $9,000 total of warranty repairs done, and that was with the vehicle well-maintained. (the maintenance costs were right around $5,500 to date from June 2002 when we bought it.) Ball joints, rear main seal, both axle pinion seals, front drive axel output shaft seals, intake manifold leak, several sets of oil cooler and filter hoses, wheel bearings, pitman & idler arms, relay rods, plugged heater core... there's more, but you get the picture.

Cheap bastards @GM! used cheap metal. Just make sure folks that ride in your car don't apply too much pressure when adjusting the seat. My wife broke both sides!
